Cheonan raw fish restaurant, spicy stew to take home: Donghae Bada

In short

Donghae Bada Hoetjip is a raw fish restaurant with private rooms near the Baeksuk The Sharp apartments in Dujeong-dong, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan. On a weekday lunch reservation with a friend, the 110,000 won set for two brought a mixed sashimi platter plus haemul-jjim (spicy braised seafood), with thick-cut rockfish, sea bream and bluefin tuna and a stew spicier than Shin Ramyun. The set for two was so generous that the leftover haemul-jjim went home in a takeout box.

Went to Cheonan with a friend and stopped for lunch at Donghae Bada Hoetjip, a well-known spot in Dujeong-dong. The place is pretty spacious and has several private rooms besides the main hall, so it's great for group gatherings. Today I'll share the location, parking, rooms, and a review of the sashimi platter + seafood stew set for two.

Private rooms in Cheonan for group gatherings

Spacious main hall inside Donghae Bada Hoetjip

Walking in, you first hit a spacious hall. The place itself is large with generous table spacing, so it never felt cramped.

Further in, there are several private rooms, each with a long table set up to seat many people.

Since it was just my friend and me, we ate in the hall, and the table spacing was comfortable enough for a quiet chat over the meal. For family gatherings or work dinners with a bigger group, this is a great room restaurant in Cheonan.

What comes in the 110,000 won set for two

We ordered the sashimi platter + seafood stew set for two. It costs ₩110,000.

Side dishes and accompaniments served before the main dishes

Before the mains came out, side dishes and accompaniments were served first — seaweed soup, grilled fish, pajeon (green onion pancake), bossam (boiled pork wraps), and more. The bossam and pajeon were especially good.

Rockfish, sea bream and bluefin tuna on the sashimi platter

Next came the sashimi platter, made up of live rockfish, sea bream, and tuna (bluefin) sashimi.

We got to try a good variety of fish, and the sashimi was fresh with a thick cut that made for a satisfying bite. The rockfish sashimi was firm and chewy, while the sea bream was softer and cleaner-tasting — a clear difference between the two.

Spicy braised seafood, prepped at the table by staff

The seafood stew was loaded with abalone, squid, roe, octopus, and blue crab. Staff came by and trimmed everything into easy-to-eat pieces, so it was convenient to dig in right away.

Spicy sauce soaked into the seafood stew

The seafood pieces were all pretty chunky, and the sauce soaked in deep, so you got the spicy flavor and the seafood texture together. The sauce is fairly spicy — for someone with a low spice tolerance like me, it felt spicier than Shin Ramyun. Alternating between the sashimi and the stew kept things interesting all the way through without getting tiring.

The set for two is ₩110,000, so it's on the pricier side, but with the basic side dishes, sashimi platter, and stew all included, the portions were more than enough for two people.

We couldn't actually finish the stew, so we packed the leftovers to take home :)

Is Donghae Bada Hoetjip worth a weekday lunch?

Table at Donghae Bada Hoetjip after finishing the meal

If you're looking for a sashimi restaurant with private rooms in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan, Donghae Bada Hoetjip is a great spot for gatherings. The sashimi platter was fresh with a solid thickness, and with the stew added on, it was plenty filling for two. Sashimi aside, the packed-up stew was weirdly addictive — I really enjoyed it at home too. With a large free parking lot and private rooms available, it's worth considering for a work dinner or gathering in Dujeong-dong ◡̈
