Breaking from the perm we'd done every year, I had Huni's hair cut short — but my judgment call was off, and it turned into completely unmanageable hair. Every time I looked at it I wondered what to do... Then during a visit just for a trim, I liked the place, so I grew the hair out diligently until it reached a length that could be permed, and went back to Naple Hair Juan Seokbawi Intersection Branch, a Juan hair salon.

Inside Naple Hair: white wood and plant decor

The interior was spacious and comfortable, with a white-and-wood interior and plants tucked here and there — a really pretty space.

Since it had been grown out quite a bit already, the sides weren't sticking out as much as before, but we couldn't let it grow any longer, so I booked and went in right away.

The kids' cut and shadow perm process, step by step

After a simple shampoo, the hair wasn't fully grown out but was long enough to perm, so they said they'd do a shadow perm. They started with a neat, clean cut.

While we waited, they brought out tea and snacks.

And now the perm itself begins. They said they'd curl it a little tighter, and I sat there quietly praying, please just make it pretty, don't let it come out too frizzy...

Seeing the back of her head all rolled up, it kind of looked like a grandma perm haha. Deputy Director Seoro did the heat treatment carefully, checked in on the progress along the way, and kept chatting with the kid at her eye level the whole time.

How the kids' shadow perm turned out

Once the shadow perm was done and they gave it a final shampoo and showed us the result, I really felt how much a hairstyle can change someone's whole image. Nicely coiled, springy curls. A pretty shadow perm, not overdone at all :) I couldn't believe how different she looked?! Good job sitting still through the whole thing :) Next time we could go a bit tighter on the curl.

It looked perfect to my eyes, but Deputy Director Seoro spotted a few spots that needed more work, so she gave it an extra finishing cut.

While blow-drying it, she also explained how to style it going forward and how best to dry it at home.
