Michuhol ramen restaurant, chili oil in mild broth: Menya Seoul

I was looking for something for lunch that wasn't too heavy but still simple and filling, and ramen came to mind, so I went to Menya Seoul in the basement 1F food court of Lotte Department Store Incheon.

I'd eaten here once before and liked it, so this was a repeat visit haha! It's known as a famous ramen restaurant from Yongsan, and it's great that you can also find it at Lotte Department Store Incheon — good for a quick meal while shopping.

Menya Seoul, a restaurant worth knowing at Lotte Department Store Incheon, sells not just ramen but also mazesoba, sweet soy chicken rice bowls, gyoza (Japanese-style dumplings), and more — good whether you just want ramen alone or a filling set.

The signature options are dongpo pork char siu ramen and jambon char siu ramen, and you can choose your broth by preference — mild, spicy, or mala. Inside, the tables are neatly arranged in a bar layout, and you order, get a buzzer, then sit and wait.

You could see a bit of the cooking happening in the kitchen, and personally I felt this kind of open setup felt cleaner and more hygienic.

There was also origin information posted around the tables, which I checked out while eating.

Two set meals for two people, plus the Coca-Cola keycap gift

We visited as a pair this time, so we ordered set menus.

• Dongpo pork mild-broth set — side: sweet soy chicken rice bowl (small) + drink
• Spicy jambon ramen set — side: crispy gyoza (small) + drink

Ordering the sets meant a much more filling meal than ramen alone, so it worked well for a hearty lunch. And there was a cute little event running that day! Ordering a set menu got you a Coca-Cola special keycap, so we grabbed two of those haha.

The keycaps were cuter than I expected. ☺️

Dongpo pork ramen and jambon ramen: how does chili oil change the broth?

After a short wait, our order came out. Neatly plated dongpo pork ramen and jambon ramen! They looked so good served nicely in their bowls, just by appearance alone.

I ordered the dongpo pork mild broth — it wasn't heavy at all, clean-tasting, and went down easier than I expected.

Partway through, I started craving a bit of spice, so I added the chili oil that was set out on the table. Oh — that was also delicious lol.

I started off mild and clean, then once I added chili oil halfway through, the broth flavor completely changed — like enjoying two different flavors in one bowl.

The mild broth was good on its own, but the broth with a little chili oil added in was really delicious too.

I also tried the sides that came with the ramen — first, the sweet soy chicken rice bowl!

The chicken was coated in a sweet-savory soy sauce, and it went well eaten alongside the ramen. Ramen alone can feel like it's missing something, but having a rice dish alongside made it a much heartier lunch. And what I especially enjoyed was the crispy gyoza!

Crispy on the outside, soft and moist on the inside, and packed full of meat filling — really tasty.

Just as the name suggests, the outside was fried crisp while the inside stayed moist, and it went well eaten with the ramen broth or just on its own. I think I'd order the gyoza as a side again next time haha.

Is Menya Seoul a good quick ramen lunch in Guwol-dong, Incheon?

That day, with the ramen and set sides, it ended up being a more filling lunch than I expected.

Being located in the basement 1F food court of Lotte Department Store Incheon makes it especially convenient for a quick bite while shopping, and having options beyond ramen — mazesoba, rice bowls, gyoza — meant we could each pick what suited our taste.

I'd also recommend starting mild like I did and adding chili oil partway through for some heat lol. The dongpo pork ramen paired soft dongpo pork with a clean broth nicely, and the jambon ramen offered a different kind of enjoyment altogether.
