What we ordered at the kiosk

Ordering was easy through the kiosk. We ordered two servings of pork belly, one serving of pork neck, one fried rice, one doenjang jjigae, one steamed egg, and a draft beer! You've gotta try a few different cuts of meat together, so we picked pork belly and pork neck to compare.

Charcoal grill set up on the table

They said the charcoal is kept clean too.

We started with the pork belly first. The second it hit the charcoal, that sizzling sound alone was enough to get the appetite going 🔥

Grilled to a good golden brown, the pork belly had that nutty, savory flavor come through nicely, and eating it hot off the grill reminded me that meat really is best eaten fresh off the fire. Grilling it yourself over charcoal added a fun element you don't get at a regular BBQ place — a different vibe altogether. Add in the smell of meat cooking, and the atmosphere was set the moment the meal started!

Pork neck after the pork belly

After finishing off two servings of pork belly, we moved on to grilling the pork neck too. It had a different, more clean-tasting appeal compared to the pork belly, so I was glad we ordered both.

The side dishes came out looking great too, right?

The side dishes were really clean and well made. And of course, no meat meal is complete without a draft beer 🍺 — we ordered one, and a grilled piece of pork belly with a cold beer was such a great combo.

There are all kinds of places to eat around Yangjae Citizen's Forest Station, but when I'm craving meat, a charcoal-grilled place like this is what really pulls me in.

Grilled pork belly and pork neck
Meat cooking over the charcoal grill

The pork belly was nutty and juicy, easy to eat, while the pork neck was a bit cleaner-tasting and enjoyable in its own way — good to pick between depending on your preference. Eating nothing but meat for a while makes you crave something else, so we also tried the steamed egg and doenjang jjigae we'd ordered alongside.

Finishing with fried rice 🍚

Even when you're pretty full already, somehow there's always room for fried rice after meat, haha. So we ordered one to finish things off.

The fried rice ordered to finish the meal

The soft, fluffy steamed egg went really well alongside the meat, and sipping the warm doenjang jjigae broth spoonful by spoonful helped cut through the richness from all the meat.

The fried rice and stew were the best!!

Finishing with fried rice after the meat made for a satisfying, filling end to the meal. Between the pork belly, pork neck, doenjang jjigae, steamed egg and fried rice, it felt like a really well-rounded meal. Personally, I think a good BBQ restaurant needs good side dishes alongside the main meat to really satisfy — and this time, we got to try a good variety of everything.
