So many of you love shabu-shabu, right? I'm someone who has to eat shabu-shabu at least once a month!! It's basically soul food for me, so whenever a new shabu-shabu place opens I have to check it out. This time I heard that Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Siheung Janggok Branch, a well-known shabu-shabu spot in Siheung, had renovated, so my husband and I rushed right over!!

The renovated dining room and ordering two broths for two people
The first thing I noticed walking in was how clean it was! Maybe because of the renovation, it felt really fresh and comfortable, and there was this subtle nice scent in the air. It's a restaurant... what's the secret?
The staff kindly showed us to our seats, and we ordered the mushroom broth + spicy broth combo for two!
What's on the self-serve bar at Pyeonbaek Hoegwan?
The self-serve bar at Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Siheung Janggok Branch had more than I expected — pasta, dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken), and all kinds of fried items~! And this is my favorite part of any shabu-shabu place: raiding the self-serve bar! ㅎㅅㅎ❤️💗 Everyone comes for shabu-shabu but hits the self-serve bar before the meat first, right??
How is the cypress-steamed (pyeonbaek) dish served?
The cypress steam dish I'd been waiting and waiting for! When it's ready, the staff come over and open it for you. I honestly couldn't not film this... the moment the lid opens, the visual alone makes you drool again. Steam rising, meat and vegetables arranged so neatly.
I took a few photos and dug right in. Since it's steamed, it took a few minutes to cook, but it took less than 3 minutes to eat it all...ha. We ended up getting one refill of the cypress steam!
Unlimited shabu-shabu vegetables and meat refills
Then it was officially shabu time~~ The vegetables were varied and fresh, and they even had minari (water dropwort), which I love. Adding in whatever vegetables I wanted and boiling them up... yeah, shabu-shabu is love!
The meat is also all-you-can-eat, so it was great being able to grab as much as we wanted. Even though we'd already eaten quite a bit between the cypress steam and the self-serve bar, once the shabu-shabu started, somehow there was still room...? The human stomach is truly a mystery.
What was the staff service like?
The staff at Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Siheung Janggok Branch were rea~lly kind. Without us even calling them over, they kept an eye out for what we needed and took care of it right away. At one point I'd left my hair tie somewhere and was so uncomfortable, and a staff member came over to tell me it was at the counter. Overall the service felt very at ease, which made the whole meal more enjoyable. ❤️💗
Finishing with kalguksu noodles, rice porridge and ice cream
If you've eaten shabu-shabu, you have to go all the way to the finishing course... that's just how devoted shabu fans are. We split it — kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) in the spicy broth, and porridge in the mushroom broth! Our stomachs already felt completely full so we only had a little~! And to top it off, we cleared out the ice cream for dessert too. This is exactly why I love shabu-shabu places so much..!!
When we paid, the owner even gave us a little free gift, which was a nice way to end the meal. If you love shabu-shabu, this is a great place to fill up on cypress steam, shabu-shabu, and the self-serve bar all in one meal! If you're a couple like us who loves eating, you'll probably end up going quiet here too, haha.
