Indoor baseball screen at a Sangbong jjukkumi restaurant: Joajukne
In short
Joajukne Jjukkumi is a baby octopus (jjukkumi) restaurant in the Sangbong food alley in Jungnang, Seoul. On a Friday night the writer took an indoor seat where a beam projector was showing a baseball game, ordered two servings of jjukkumi-samgyeopsal at 16,900 won with glass noodle sari and flying fish roe fried rice, and refilled perilla leaves, pickled radish and mayo sauce freely at the self-serve bar. Plump baby octopus in spicy sauce plus a free ice cream dessert made Joajukne Jjukkumi a 100% return visit.

Did you know Sangbong has a ton of great open-air (yajang) restaurants? While deciding what to eat, I settled on Joajukne Jjukkumi, a baby octopus place with a clean, tidy interior!
Where is Joajukne Jjukkumi, and what are its hours?

Outdoor yajang tables or indoor seats? Watching baseball inside Joajukne Jjukkumi
In the evenings Joajukne Jjukkumi sets out a lot of outdoor tables in front of the shop. These days the evenings are cool enough that eating outside would be really nice!

But we had to watch baseball, so we went indoors haha. They had a baseball game playing via projector, which was great. A restaurant that puts on baseball is the best.🖤❤️

The restaurant has square tables as well as round tables with a pojangmacha (street tent bar) vibe. If you're drinking a lot, the round tables would be great haha.
What two people ordered at Joajukne Jjukkumi, and the prices
Joajukne Jjukkumi also had a jjukkumi hot pot and a set menu with jjukkumi plus rice-scorched water (sungnyung) and various sari, but we ordered the jjukkumi-samgyeopsal for two. We added glass noodle sari too!
- Jjukkumi-samgyeopsal: ₩16,900 x 2
- Glass noodle sari: ₩2,000
- Roe fried rice: ₩4,000
- Beer: ₩5,000
- Dessert ice cream: ₩0, free

These are the basic side dishes that came out: perilla leaves, pickled radish, carrot, mayo sauce, garlic, ssamjang, and flying fish roe. They gave us a generous amount of roe, which was great.👍
Free refills of perilla leaves and sauces at the self-serve bar
Joajukne Jjukkumi's self-serve bar has perilla leaves, pickled radish, bean sprouts, mayo sauce, ssamjang, and garlic ready to go, so you can grab as much as you need.

When you're eating jjukkumi, you end up going through a lot of perilla leaves and sauce, and it always feels a bit awkward to keep asking staff for refills. But with the self-serve bar, we could help ourselves without worrying about it, haha.

Sangbong's Joajukne Jjukkumi says they use unaged (non-fermented) octopus!
Before the food came out, we had a beer to wet our whistle.🍻 Maybe because it was Friday night, but every table around us was drinking too, haha.

How big are two servings of jjukkumi-samgyeopsal, and how spicy is it?
The jjukkumi-samgyeopsal arrived! The portion size was quite generous! At other jjukkumi restaurants, two servings always felt a bit short. But here at Joajukne Jjukkumi, the pork belly wasn't scattered thinly — it was piled up to fill the pan, and there was a good amount of plump octopus too!

The staff cooked everything for us, so we just waited and ate once it was done — super convenient👍

Near the end of cooking, they added the glass noodle sari we'd ordered, and after a short wait it was ready to eat.

Delicious jjukkumi, done😎 The sauce was on the quite spicy side! There was chili flake powder on the table, so if you like it spicier, you can add more.

The octopus was plump and had a really nice chewy bite.

Perilla leaf + pickled radish + mayo sauce + roe together — need I say more, it's so good!
Finishing with flying fish roe fried rice for 4,000 won
To finish, we ordered roe fried rice. If you're Korean, no matter how full you are, you can't skip the fried rice haha!

They piled the flying fish roe on top at the very end, and there was a huge amount of it. I really recommend ordering the roe fried rice.

We scraped the pan clean, haha.

Free dessert at Joajukne Jjukkumi: pick one of three
Joajukne Jjukkumi also has a free dessert service. When the staff lets you know, you can choose between ice cream, a hangover remedy, or a digestive aid! I picked the ice cream. It was vanilla ice cream drizzled with chocolate syrup, and it tasted surprisingly upscale for a free vanilla ice cream. We finished the meal on a happy note, dessert included.😊
Final verdict on Joajukne Jjukkumi in Sangbong
I go to the Sangbong food alley often, and I found a new favorite jjukkumi restaurant there. I'll have to add Joajukne Jjukkumi to my Sangbong list, haha. Clean interior, friendly staff, and above all delicious octopus — I'd give it a 100% return visit rate. If you're ever near Sangbong, I highly recommend having jjukkumi at an open-air table on a cool evening!👍
