Incheon sushi takeout for a park picnic: Minyeong Hwareo Gongjang

Today, I visited Minyeong Hwareo Gongjang Moraenae Market Branch, a sushi spot in Guwol-dong, Incheon that I’d wanted to try because it’s so well known. We parked in a nearby public parking lot and quickly picked up our order.

It was my first time at Moraenae Traditional Market in Guwol, Incheon, and wow—it was such a busy hot spot!

How does Minyeong Hwareo Gongjang operate?

Minyeong Hwareo Gongjang operates as a takeout-only shop.

They say they run it this way to reduce extra costs such as rent and labor needed for a dine-in restaurant, then offer high-quality sushi and live fish sashimi at good-value prices. And there was one more thing I really liked.

Their principle is to use up ingredients prepared that day on the very same day. Even great ingredients can lose flavor if kept too long, so hearing that they prepare and sell fresh ingredients every day made me trust the sushi even more.

Choosing from the sushi display and price tags

The different sushi types were displayed so beautifully. The staff kept looking after the sushi, too. It’s been such a long time since I saw a takeout shop maintained this well—I was excited.

At Minyeong Hwareo Gongjang Moraenae, even the prices top out in the ₩10,000 range, while egg sushi and regular inari sushi can be had for under ₩10,000. Such a good-value spot!

An ice pack comes with sushi or sashimi purchases, so I felt reassured about taking it out even on hot days like these. They also sell mulhoe (chilled raw-fish soup).

The display case was already generously stocked with sushi, and every item had a name and price tag, making it easy to choose.

They didn’t just use ordinary packaging—they put it in Minyeong Hwareo Gongjang’s own insulated shopping bag and included an ice pack inside, which I loved. Since freshness matters so much with foods like sushi and sashimi, their attention to keeping it cool felt really thoughtful.

Minyeong Hwareo Gongjang Moraenae’s sushi packaging was especially thoughtful. It came with ginger, garlic, a small soy-sauce dish, wasabi, and miso soup (just add hot water). Such a full, carefully put-together package!! The weather was lovely, so we went to a nearby park to eat.

I especially loved the shrimp sushi sprinkled with butter, haha. Such an unusual flavor, too!

The fish on top of the sushi was not too thin but nicely thick, so I could really appreciate its texture with the rice. The flatfish was mild and pleasantly chewy, while the salmon was soft and rich—just perfect as sushi. The tuna was clean-tasting with a savory depth. There was shrimp, too, so alternating among the different kinds kept every bite delicious and never boring.
