Jeju rice cake shop for day-before pickup and freezer storage: Suragan

In short

Suragan Tteokbang is an omegi-tteok (rice cake) shop in Jeju City, Jeju. After falling for omegi-tteok at a hotel breakfast, the writer reserved and packed several flavors, only to find the rice cakes had melted in the hotel fridge overnight and had to ask the lobby to freeze them instead. Even a self-declared bread person changed their mind over this chewy, not-too-sweet rice cake — just pick it up on the last day of your trip so you can freeze it right away.

First taste of omegi-tteok at hotel breakfast

Suragan Tteokbang, a must-visit for Jeju omegi-tteok (rice cake) 🧡 — perfect for a Jeju trip souvenir. My hotel breakfast had a Jeju-style spread, and omegi-tteok was on it. I knew it was one of those things you're supposed to try in Jeju, but honestly I'm more of a bread person than a rice cake person, so I figured I'd just take one bite... and that completely changed my mind!

It was so much chewier and softer than I expected, and genuinely delicious. I loved the chewy bite and it wasn't overly sweet 🥺 The tangerine omegi-tteok 🍊 especially won me over — I decided right then that I had to buy some to take home from Jeju haha.

Suragan Tteokbang's location and hours

The place I reserved and visited was Suragan Tteokbang, a Jeju omegi-tteok specialty shop 🧡

  • Location: 41 Noyeon-ro, Jeju-si, Jeju
  • Hours: Daily 8:00–18:30

After reserving and stopping by, I found flavors similar to what I'd had at breakfast, which made me even happier 💛 Inside the shop there were all kinds of delicious rice cakes prepared, not just omegi-tteok!

Good for souvenirs and gifts? What about parking?

It looked great for a Jeju souvenir or a gift for family and friends, so if you're looking for a Jeju trip souvenir this is worth a stop 😎 And there's parking right in front of the shop, which made picking up my reserved order easy.

Tasting it, the soft, chewy texture was just as good as I remembered. Even I, who prefers bread over rice cakes, enjoyed it enough to think, wait, I actually love omegi-tteok!! haha. They also told me it's best to freeze omegi-tteok as soon as you receive it, so they recommended picking it up on the last day of your trip.

Gift packaging box for omegi-tteok

The packaging box was nice and clean, good for gifting, and they included a mini ice pack too haha.

I packed mine up and brought it home myself, but they said nationwide shipping is also available! Great news for anyone who can't make it to Jeju in person but still wants to try omegi-tteok at home 🧡

The day I picked it up early and it melted in the hotel fridge

Since I had an early departure the next morning, I picked up the rice cakes the day before and put them in the hotel fridge — but it wasn't cold enough, and the rice cakes had all melted and gone soft 🫠 I rushed down to the lobby and asked them to freeze it for me!

How to store omegi-tteok

After taking it out of the box, it's better to spread it out flat in the freezer rather than sealing it in a container. Don't store it in the fridge or a kimchi fridge — keep it in the freezer. Once taken out of the freezer, it's best eaten within two hours. Rice cakes received by delivery in particular are hard to thaw naturally. To eat, they said to unwrap it, cut it in half, and microwave it for about 20–30 seconds.

Omegi-tteok that even a bread person changed their mind over

I used to say bread over rice cakes any day! But this omegi-tteok completely changed my mind. Chewy, soft, and genuinely delicious — Suragan Tteokbang's omegi-tteok was hands down one of my most satisfying snacks on this whole Jeju trip 🥺🧡 Why did it take me this long to discover this flavor haha. If you're heading to Jeju, definitely try omegi-tteok at least once! 💛
