Ppyeodae Itneun Haejangguk Juchon Branch is a haejangguk (hangover soup) and gamjatang (pork bone stew) restaurant near Costco in Juchon, Gimhae, Gyeongnam. The basic banchan and boiled pork slices

Once you order, the basic banchan (side dishes) get set up. Kkakdugi, kimchi, onion, chili, ssamjang, boiled pork slices, and sauce all come out neatly.

They basically give you one taste of boiled pork per person, and it's really good — no gamey smell, not tough at all, just soft. It's great as a drinking snack too, so I'd recommend ordering some separately!

What the self-bar offers

If you need more banchan, you can just grab it from the self-bar, which was nice. It was well-stocked and hygienic too~

Ppyeo-haejangguk: how filling is it for a solo meal?

After a short wait, my ppyeo-haejangguk came out bubbling away in a stone bowl. I've had this dish many times but it still looks so hearty and mouth-watering every time!

Big chunks of bone are topped generously with ugeoji (dried napa cabbage leaves), and plenty of perilla powder is sprinkled on top. The ugeoji has soaked up the broth well so the flavors aren't separate, and it's not tough at all — really tasty.

And the broth — need I say more? Deep and rich, the kind of flavor that keeps you coming back for more. Eat the bones first, then mix the rest into rice — you'll be properly nourished!

Thought only the bones were big? The meat attached is huge too! There are 3-4 of these big bones in the bowl, making it really filling — a very generous portion for a woman eating alone!

The meat comes off easily with chopsticks so you can eat comfortably, but I used my hands and dug in properly!

And the real kicker of Ppyeodae Itneun Haejangguk in Gimhae Juchon is this sauce — dipping the lean meat in the sweet-tangy sauce is amazing~ It's magic how you keep dipping endlessly!

Gondre egg sotbap (hot pot rice with gondre greens)

I'd had gondre egg sotbap (hot pot rice with gondre greens and egg) at another branch and it was so good, so I ordered it here too.

There's a really generous amount of gondre underneath the egg, so when you open the lid the gondre aroma is amazing~

They give you a separate bowl too, and mixing it with the seasoning sauce means the rice alone is nourishing~

Finishing with sungnyung (scorched rice tea) leaves you really full and satisfied. If you want a hearty meal, I'd recommend switching to the sotbap~
