Laptop-friendly Gimhae café with mentaiko salt bread: Peer a Peer

In short

Peer a Peer is a large bakery café in Jillye-myeon, Gimhae, Gyeongnam, remodeled from a 40-year-old factory. The order was an iced Americano, manju (sweet stuffed bun), mentaiko salt bread and egg pie, and Peer a Peer's roomy tables made laptop work easy; the mentaiko salt bread was crisp outside with a savory-salty depth. Between the bread and the generous seating, Peer a Peer is worth a stop on every Gimhae visit.

These days I'm a total bread lover haha, always chasing down good bakeries. Since I was in Gimhae, I stopped by a Gimhae bread hotspot too. Let's go through my review of Peer a Peer in Gimhae — a large café I'd recommend in the area.

What kind of café is Peer a Peer?

Peer a Peer is a large café remodeled from a 40-year-old factory. The name is said to carry the meaning that some things only reveal themselves when you stay and look closely. Rather than just a café to look at the scenery, it aims to be a space where you can linger and discover new tastes and inspiration.

Peer a Peer is both a café and a cultural space where you can experience coffee and bakery goods, as well as books, exhibitions, and performances.

Parking and seating at Peer a Peer

Peer a Peer's private lot can hold up to 100 cars, so parking was convenient.

Being a large café, the interior is quite spacious, and there's a space guide map on one side that's handy to check when you're finding your way around.

The tables were spaced generously apart, so it felt comfortable rather than cramped, with everything from regular tables to long tables for groups. Each area has a slightly different mood, so you can pick whichever spot suits you. Overall it had a clean, calm atmosphere, great for relaxing with a cup of coffee.

There were also tables with standing lamps, which seemed good for reading.

There are various artworks and books on display — you can appreciate the art, and even if you didn't bring a book, you can borrow one to read.

Baby chairs are also available, so keep that in mind if you're visiting with little ones.

Peer a Peer bakery and drink menu

Peer a Peer sells a wide range of baked goods. Each piece of bread looked so good, right...? I honestly wanted to try them all.

Cakes and wakppu salt bread on display

They also had delicious cakes and the trendy wakppu (thick, oversized) salt bread.

They sell a variety of coffee, lattes, smoothies, teas, and juices — the same kinds of tasty drinks you'd find at any regular café.

How do the mentaiko salt bread, egg pie and manju taste?

What I ordered was iced Americano, manju, mentaiko salt bread, and egg pie.

Peer a Peer, officially a certified bread hotspot!! This was the best bread I've had recently.

It was my first time trying mentaiko (seasoned pollock roe) salt bread — the outside was crispy and the mentaiko inside was salty with great umami, genuinely delicious. It wasn't too strong-flavored either, seasoned just right so I could eat it without any burden.

Egg pie with visible flaky layers

The egg pie had a flaky, layered crust on the outside while the filling inside was soft and moist — I enjoyed it a lot.

Iced Americano paired with bread

When the bread got a bit much, I'd wash it down with the iced Americano and go back for more bread — the best combo ^^ The Americano had a nutty, dark roast feel to it.

Is Peer a Peer good for laptop work?

I got some laptop work done at Peer a Peer while enjoying coffee and bread, and it turned out to be a great café for working on a laptop too. It's a café I'd want to stop by every time I visit Gimhae. If you're looking for a large café or bakery café in Gimhae, I recommend 'Peer a Peer.'
