Yongsan pork cutlet with sauce on the side, tried two ways: Onjeong
In short
Yongsan Donkatsu Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang, Yongsan branch is a handmade Korean-style pork cutlet restaurant in the Richensia shopping arcade by Hyochang Park Station in Yongsan, Seoul. The classic pork cutlet normally arrives with the sauce poured over it, but Onjeong takes sauce-on-the-side requests, so the udon and pork cutlet set and the buckwheat noodle and spicy pork cutlet set were each eaten two ways, plain and dipped. With bar seating, a baby chair and 2 hours of free parking, Onjeong suits both solo diners and family meals.

I visited Yongsan Donkatsu Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang, Yongsan branch, located in the Richensia commercial building near Hyochang Park Station in Yongsan.

With handmade pork cutlets and sauces made fresh every day and a warm, comfortable atmosphere, it's a place that's easy for solo dining and nice for family meals too. This is my review of Yongsan Donkatsu Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang, a well-known cutlet spot in the Hyochang Park neighborhood.

Bar seats for solo diners and a baby chair at Onjeong
Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang, Yongsan branch has a bar table that's comfortable for solo dining, along with 4-person and 2-person tables, plus a sturdy baby chair. Being inside an apartment complex, I saw a lot of solo diners and plenty of families eating with kids too.
Onjeong menu and prices: pork cutlet sets from 13,000 won

Ordering and payment are simple through the kiosk near the entrance.

- Classic pork cutlet ₩13,000
- Onjeong spicy pork cutlet ₩13,500
- Cheddar cheese pork cutlet ₩13,500
- Onjeong curry pork cutlet ₩13,500

There are also great-value udon and buckwheat noodle sets, plus fried tofu and fish cake udon and green tangerine cold buckwheat soba.

Rice and side dishes are self-serve, which is convenient, and the self bar was kept spotless, giving the whole place a hygienic feel.

The rice, pork, kkakdugi (radish kimchi), and vegetables are all Korean-grown :)
Asking for the sauce on the side: pork cutlet two ways
Onjeong's Korean-style pork cutlet normally comes topped with sauce, but you can request it on the side too! We like eating cutlet without sauce as well, so we asked for sauce separately to try it both ways. We ordered the udon and classic pork cutlet set and the buckwheat noodle and spicy pork cutlet set.

The udon and classic pork cutlet set — maybe because they use good oil, the cutlet's batter had a clean color and was fried a nice golden brown, which made it look even more appetizing.

We started with the soft mushroom soup, which gently settled our stomachs first.

Even as part of the set, the udon portion was as generous as an à la carte order, packed with fried tofu and fish cake. Both the cutlet with udon set and the cutlet with buckwheat set are plenty filling for one person!

The udon portion was really generous! Unlike the udon at chain restaurants, the noodles here were really chewy! I love chewy noodles, and they paired so well with the light broth.
The thinly fried cutlet was soft on the inside with a totally crisp coating — I think kids would really love it!

The classic cutlet sauce tasted sweet with a slight tang, maybe from some fruit mixed in — no spice at all, just sweet and tangy, so I dipped the cutlet right in it.

How spicy is Onjeong's spicy pork cutlet?
I ordered the cold buckwheat soba and the spicy pork cutlet (sauce on the side). The heat level of Onjeong's spicy pork cutlet was just a bit spicier than Shin Ramyun.

I'm not great with spicy food but I do enjoy it, and this was just a touch spicier than Shin Ramyun — with the same sweet-tangy base as the classic sauce, it had a savory, spicy kick that was delicious.

The corn salad with green tangerine dressing that came alongside was also sweet and tangy, and the bread with strawberry jam brought back nostalgic memories — so good :)

The rich tsuyu dipping sauce and refreshing green tangerine cold buckwheat soba were both really delicious. Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang, tucked into the entrance of the apartment complex with its warm atmosphere, was a comfortable, generous cutlet restaurant that's great for solo dining, good with kids, and nice for family meals.
