A pork cutlet restaurant near Hyochang Park: Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang, Yongsan branch

Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang, a pork cutlet place near Hyochang Park Station whose name means 'a space where warmth lingers,' was somewhere I dropped by for a casual lunch with Yejiring as the autumn breeze got cooler these days.

Exterior of Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang, Yongsan branch, between Namyeong and Hyochang Park stations

The Yongsan branch of Onjeong sits between Namyeong Station and Hyochang Park Station, and the building offers 2 hours of free parking, so it's fine to drive over too, haha. We took the bus to dodge the packed lunch hour (?) and moved fast enough to eat without any wait.

Onjeong Yongsan branch — seeing how the branches are divided like this, it seems to be run as a chain, and apparently there's one near Sanbon Station too. Search it and one more location comes up~?

Ordering: curry pork cutlet 13,500 won and cold soba set 15,000 won

You order at the kiosk near the entrance. When we arrived around 11:45 am, there were still some open seats... but past noon the place filled up with customers. It gets busy during peak lunch, so go at off-peak hours, hahahahahaha.

  • Rich curry-flavored curry pork cutlet: ₩13,500
  • Cold soba and spicy pork cutlet (1 piece) set: ₩15,000

Yejiring and I ordered these two to share.

Self bar corner with rice and side dishes

Off to one side there was a corner with rice and side dishes laid out — if you run short, you just go grab more (!). But once we actually ate, the portions here were so big to begin with that we never got the chance to use it more,, this Onjeong pork cutlet place really lives up to its name of warmth ; ;

What comes with the rich curry pork cutlet at Onjeong

Curry pork cutlet set with two cutlets, rice, mushroom soup, soup, salad, and bread

Pork cutlet here basically comes as 2 pieces. It's served with rice, mushroom soup, soup, salad, and bread — a full set! Being a Western-style restaurant, it came with a round bread I hadn't had in a while.

Round bread served with strawberry jam

They give you strawberry jam with it too, and eating it after so long brought back old memories. Kind of like the jam that came with school lunches back in the day? The sweet strawberry jam is delicious ,,haha

Is the cold soba and spicy pork cutlet set worth 15,000 won?

Table setting for the cold soba and spicy pork cutlet (1 piece) set

Yejiring ordered the cold soba set. Since there's no soba set with the curry cutlet, we decided to share ,, boss, why isn't there a set with the curry pork cutlet ;; Since this set already comes with a lot of food, the pork cutlet is only one piece.

Cold soba noodles with green tangerine

Cold soba, which always pairs well with pork cutlet. The soba at Onjeong has green tangerine mixed in, giving it a plentiful, refreshing tang. It's tasty ordered on its own too, but the pork cutlet paired with the soba is even better, so please try it as a set.

Mushroom soup served as an appetizer

The surprise of the meal: Onjeong's mushroom soup

And the twist is that this mushroom soup was absolutely gourmet-level, lol.

Not the greasy soup you get at typical Western-style restaurants, but more like an Outback Steakhouse soup, if you ask me. It reminded me of Bushman bread. I'm personally not great with greasy soups, but this one was really excellent ,, I dipped the round bread in it as an appetizer, hahahahahaha. My pork-cutlet appetite was rising...

How thick is the cutlet and how spicy is the spicy one?

Cross-section of a thick pork cutlet with rich curry sauce

Maybe because they use thick meat prepped that same day, the texture was tender and the flavor was rich. Not super thick, but thick enough to be a satisfying bite! The thick curry sauce soaked into the cutlet nicely, and personally I wish they had a spicier version of the curry menu too :) I'm someone who likes a good plentiful heat ; ;

Spicy pork cutlet topped with a sweet-and-spicy sauce

Yejiring's spicy pork cutlet. It's not intensely spicy right away, but as you keep eating, the heat kind of creeps up on you? It had both the sweetness and spiciness you get from yangnyeom chicken. A dish I'd recommend to anyone who likes a sweet-and-spicy combo. 22.

Final verdict on lunch at Onjeong in Yongsan

Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang, Yongsan branch, a good-value spot somewhere between Namyeong Station and Hyochang Park Station. I came away having enjoyed a delicious lunch full of that distinctly Western-style pork cutlet charm. The weather was warm enough that I thought about walking to work, but the autumn sun was too strong, so back to the bus, lol. If you want pork cutlet that's generous in portion and delicious, this one's a recommendation.
