Ansan soup restaurant with an in-house butcher shop: Morakmorak

In short

Morakmorak Seolleongtang Ansan Seongpo Main Branch is a Korean restaurant specialising in seolleongtang (ox bone soup) and galbitang (short rib soup), located in the basement of Star Plaza in Seongpo-dong, Ansan. The same space also holds a butcher shop and a takeout-only counter, and one seolleongtang and one galbitang shared between two people came with deep broth, generous meat and unlimited banchan from the self-serve bar. Morakmorak Seolleongtang is an easy Seongpo-dong pick whenever a hot bowl of Korean soup is in order.

I had some business to take care of in Ansan and suddenly craved a hot bowl of soup, so I looked up good spots in Seongpo-dong and found Morakmorak Seolleongtang Ansan Seongpo Main Branch.

Honestly I went in without high expectations, just casually, but the broth turned out to be so deep and rich, and the portions so generous, that I felt like I'd truly discovered a hidden gem in Seongpo-dong. I want to walk you through this satisfying visit in detail~

Where is Morakmorak Seolleongtang Ansan Seongpo, and where do you park?

Morakmorak Seolleongtang Ansan Seongpo is located in the basement of Star Plaza, so even though it was my first time there, it wasn't hard to find, and I could conveniently use the building's parking lot~ If you request parking registration after your meal, free parking is available, so I could eat without worrying about parking.

Visiting the restaurant, I noticed it also runs a butcher shop on the premises. That really boosted my trust in the quality of the meat~ On top of that, there's a separate takeout-only counter near the escalator entrance. If you're short on time to eat in the restaurant or just want to enjoy it comfortably at home, taking it out to go looks like a great option!

What to order: one seolleongtang and one galbitang to share

The menu at Morakmorak Seolleongtang Ansan Seongpo is as shown above. There were so many varied options that I had a happy dilemma, and ended up ordering one seolleongtang and one galbitang to share~

As soon as we ordered, the side dishes were set up quickly. It's not an exaggeration to say that at a seolleongtang restaurant, the kimchi and diced radish kimchi (kkakdugi) make or break the experience — and tasting them, they had just the right amount of spice with a refreshing savory kick that suited my taste perfectly. If any side dish runs low while you're eating, you can just grab more from the self-serve bar without hesitation~

Not long after, the seolleongtang and galbitang arrived right away. Now that's fast food~ hahaha

How does the seolleongtang taste? Ox bone broth, somyeon noodles and plenty of beef

I tasted the seolleongtang first. It had that familiar yet hearty look — milky broth with meat and thin wheat noodles (somyeon) inside. The broth wasn't too heavy or greasy; instead it was clean while still carrying that deep, distinctive flavor of ox bone. At first I tried it plain, then added a bit of salt and pepper to taste — as I adjusted the seasoning, the savory flavor came through more and suited my palate well.

Slurping up the noodles soaked in broth was fun in its own way, and following that with a bowl of warm rice mixed into the soup, the whole bowl disappeared in no time~ Most of all, there was more meat than I expected, so I could enjoy meat right up to the last spoonful. A satisfying fullness washed over me — the feeling of having had a truly solid, proper meal today.

Mixing rice into the hot broth and topping it with kimchi made it so hearty! I think this is exactly the kind of satisfying flavor seolleongtang is meant to be eaten for~

Galbitang with large short ribs

Next, I decided to steal some of my husband's galbitang haha. The galbitang had big, chunky short ribs that looked hearty just from the sight of them. Cutting them with scissors, it felt like the meat just kept coming out lol. The galbitang also had glass noodles (dangmyeon) inside — and honestly, galbitang wouldn't feel complete without them~ Alternating between a bite of meat, a slurp of glass noodles, and a sip of broth, I finished the whole bowl before I knew it.

The broth had that deep, savory flavor drawn out from the meat, so soothing that I kept scooping up spoonful after spoonful. The generous amount of meat especially made it a great, filling meal even for a grown man. If you're looking for a great seolleongtang restaurant in Ansan or a good spot in Seongpo-dong, I recommend Morakmorak Seolleongtang Ansan Seongpo Main Branch :)
