Hi everyone! Today's post is about a drive out to Yeongjong Island, where I tried some amazing octopus dishes and seafood kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) at 'Haesanggung'.

Starting with the huge parking lot, this restaurant also allows pets and has both indoor and outdoor spaces — the food came out course-meal style, so generous that I left really satisfied. I noticed a lot of people looking for restaurants near Inspire Hotel or near Club72 end up here too.

Parking, the backyard and bringing a dog to Haesanggung

The sign reading 'Haesanggung' at the entrance made it super easy to find. There's a large parking lot both in front of and behind the restaurant, so don't worry about parking!

The parking lot is really spacious, right? Even as a new driver, I felt totally comfortable with all that room!

Behind the restaurant there's a wide open lot like this — great for dogs, and just as good for kids to run around.

If you're bringing a dog to Haesanggung, you'll need a carrier or pet stroller for the indoor space. There's also terrace seating, so even with a dog you can eat comfortably.

The restaurant has a floor-to-ceiling window structure, so the natural light is great, and the tables are spaced generously for comfortable dining. With all that space, you don't have to worry about having a pet stroller or baby stroller next to you. Tables range from 4-tops to large group seating, so it's also great for gatherings.

Extra side dishes, water, and aprons are self-serve. The first round of side dishes is brought out by staff, so you can just sit and wait :)

Haesanggung says they never use artificial capsaicin. Instead they use about 10 healthy ingredients like red pepper flakes and garlic in their own aged recipe, giving a clean, savory spiciness — as someone who's bad with spicy food but loves the flavor, I was already excited.

What comes with the 57,000-won Haesanggung Set for Two

Basic side dishes of bean sprouts, kimchi, and salad

First came the basic side dishes — bean sprouts, kimchi, salad. The bean sprouts are perfect with the octopus stir-fry, right?

The Haesanggung Set for Two, ₩57,000. You can order items individually, but how could you settle for just one dish when there's so much good food?? The set comes out incredibly generous — octopus stir-fry, octopus pancake, seafood kalguksu, and turmeric rice! A spread that genuinely made my jaw drop.

Photos don't do justice to how much food this is — even video couldn't capture it all in one shot.

Whole octopus pancake with a full octopus on top

The whole octopus pancake, bigger than a palm

The whole octopus pancake (낙지한마리파전) has an entire octopus baked right into a golden-brown scallion pancake. I gasped the moment I saw it. A plump whole octopus and shrimp sit right on top of the pancake, both cooked golden brown.

Octopus pancake compared in size to a hand

It was so big I had to compare it to my hand. Can you see how much bigger it is than my palm...? I had to double-check that this was really the portion for two people, haha.

Got it ready to cut into easy-to-eat pieces. The octopus was so plump that even cutting it with tongs, I could feel the chewiness right through my fingertips. Cut it into bite-sized pieces, snip snip.

Tried the cut pieces of pancake first. Thick, firm octopus meat and plenty of shrimp on top. The inside is moist while the outside is fried crispy, so you get both crunch and chewiness at once.

Why the pancake tastes better in octopus stir-fry sauce than soy sauce

Dipping the golden pancake lightly in the soy sauce mixed with cheongyang chili peppers makes it even tastier.

Not just soy sauce — I also tried dipping it in the octopus stir-fry sauce...!! It's genuinely delicious, you have to try it, haha. The spicy flavor and the pancake's nutty taste go so well together.

Haesanggung's octopus stir-fry with deep, rich sauce

Mixing the octopus stir-fry into turmeric rice

The octopus stir-fry's charm is its sweet-and-spicy sauce. Just the deep, spicy-looking color of the sauce made my mouth water before I even took a bite.

Thick octopus leg lifted with chopsticks

When I lifted a piece with my chopsticks, the octopus legs were really thick and plump! Not tough at all, but bouncy and chewy — genuinely delicious.

Turmeric rice served alongside the octopus stir-fry

Haesanggung serves turmeric rice alongside the octopus stir-fry so you can mix it in — it's good for you, and perfect for mixing with the spicy octopus sauce, right?

Octopus stir-fry piled onto a bowl of turmeric rice

I piled the spicy-stir-fried octopus onto the bowl of turmeric rice. Added bean sprouts too, ready to mix it all together!

Mixed it up well with the crunchy bean sprouts added in. The crunch of the sprouts, the chewiness of the octopus, and that clean spicy sauce without artificial capsaicin — the perfect combination.

Turmeric octopus rice mixed with bean sprouts

Take a big bite with a piece of octopus on top of the mixed turmeric-and-bean-sprout rice, and the spiciness hits right away. Not overwhelmingly spicy, just deliciously spicy — so I kept eating without getting tired of it.

A large bowl piled high with seafood kalguksu

Which shellfish go into Haesanggung's seafood kalguksu

And it's not over yet — a huge bowl of seafood kalguksu came out next. Even just looking at it, you can tell how much is packed inside.

Stirring it with the ladle revealed mussels, scallops, razor clams, hard clams, and more.

Seafood kalguksu with clams and big chunky shrimp

The seafood kalguksu even had big chunky shrimp in it — a cool, rich broth that pairs perfectly with the spicy octopus stir-fry.

I picked all the clam and shrimp meat out and got ready to eat it together with the noodles in one bite, haha. So generous, right?

I separated all the clams out beforehand, so each spoonful of broth I scooped came topped with plenty of clam meat. The more you chew, the chewier and more savory it gets — the broth's umami really comes through.

A chopstick-full of kalguksu topped with kimchi

Can't skip kimchi with kalguksu. I tried putting kimchi on top of the noodles. The kalguksu is so cool and delicious, it goes really well with kimchi.

A spoonful of kalguksu broth topped with clam meat

Piled clam meat on for the very last bite and ate it all up. No matter how many clams I ate, Haesanggung's seafood kalguksu just kept giving 💕

Is Haesanggung worth a stop on a Yeongjong drive?

From the cleanly spicy octopus stir-fry made without artificial capsaicin, to the whole octopus pancake with a full octopus baked in, to the seafood kalguksu with its deep, refreshing broth — every single dish was delicious. I finally understood why this place ranks so high when you search for Yeongjong Island restaurants or Eulwangri restaurants, haha.

With terrace seating and an outdoor yard, it's a really great space to bring dogs or kids. Thanks to the generous portions and great flavor, I'd recommend it for a family meal, a date, or a weekend drive course! Next time you're craving delicious seafood, if you're looking for an Eulwangri restaurant, definitely give this place a visit 👍
