I took a lovely little trip to Eulwangri after a while — I visit at least once every spring and fall. Here's the story of the octopus feast I had this time: octopus stir-fry, whole octopus pancake, and seafood kalguksu.

Inside Haesanggung and the dog-friendly terrace

Inside Haesanggung there are 4-person and 6-person tables, so group visits are fine, and at the back there's a terrace with roomy seating that's great for bringing your dog along.

It was so busy I couldn't get proper interior shots. There are 4-person and 6-person tables, so it's fine for groups too. At the back there's a roomy terrace great for bringing your dog, so feel free to visit comfortably. It was fully booked so I couldn't get photos — giving up on that one, haha.

How crispy is the whole octopus pancake?

Haesanggung's whole octopus pancake is visually stunning right off the bat, with a whole octopus laid across the top. The edges are super crispy while the inside stays chewy.

A whole plate of Haesanggung's octopus pancake with the whole octopus on top

The octopus pancake that surprises you with its looks first — a whole octopus sitting right on top. I'd been drooling over this ever since I saw a pretty neighbor's post about it while seeing my sister off at the airport — finally got to meet it myself, haha!

The edges are super crispy — as someone who can never fry a pancake crispy, this is one I want to learn from. The inside stays chewy, and the octopus itself is chewy too, so the texture is genuinely fun to eat.

How to mix the octopus stir-fry with turmeric rice

Haesanggung's octopus stir-fry comes out richly cooked in a deep red sauce, and turmeric rice follows right along like thread and needle. The owner told us not to add the seasoned bean sprouts into the octopus stir-fry — save them for the turmeric rice if it gets too spicy when mixing.

That red sauce we all love — the deep red color of the octopus stir-fry really catches your eye

Side dishes served alongside the octopus stir-fry

She told us specifically not to add the seasoned bean sprouts into the octopus stir-fry, but to save them for mixing into the turmeric rice if it's too spicy. She seemed so busy I couldn't ask why, but I followed instructions and didn't add them in — hehe

Being a good listener, I added the seasoned bean sprouts into the mixed rice. So tasty-looking — the plump octopus and the spicy-sweet sauce soak in perfectly, bursting with savory flavor. A truly mouthwatering spoonful.

And there's a special way to eat the seafood pancake here too. They told us to top the seafood pancake with the octopus stir-fry sauce — so of course, I tried it. Thanks to the sauce, this was delicious too — highly recommended.

How were the seafood kalguksu broth and noodles?

The last course, Haesanggung's seafood kalguksu, is loaded with scallops, shrimp, mussels, clams, and littleneck clams, giving the broth a clean flavor. The real highlight is the noodles.

And here's the highlight of Haesanggung's kalguksu — the noodles are wonderfully plump and chewy, done just right. Huge props to the noodles.

Is Haesanggung worth a stop in Eulwangri?
