A lunch stop that fits an Eco Land and Jeju Stone Park itinerary

On September 3, the second day of our Jeju trip, we stopped at Myeonjumak Jeju Main Branch while looking for lunch on our way toward Jocheon. Attractions in eastern Jeju are deceptively far apart, so one poorly planned meal can throw off your whole route, you know? Myeonjumak is on Beonyeong-ro, so it works nicely alongside an Eco Land or Jeju Stone Park itinerary.

Leaving the beautiful sea behind, we headed into the mid-mountain area of eastern Jeju. The signs along the way were easy to follow, too.

Road sign toward Jocheon, Jeju

Even from a distance, the orange exterior and mural stood out. There was also a sign pointing to the entrance from the road, so it was easy to find even on a first visit.

There was plenty of parking in front of the restaurant. On a Jeju trip where you get around by rental car, easy parking is the best.

They may close early if ingredients sell out, so it is best to check that they are open before visiting rather than arriving for a late lunch.

A spacious dining room and handy facilities for dining with kids

Once inside, the restaurant was much bigger than I expected. The ceiling was high and there was plenty of space between tables, so it did not feel cramped sitting with the kids.

There was a broth bar on one side for topping up whenever you needed to. The broth was really delicious, too.

Look at all the convenience services Myeonjumak has prepared.

Phone stands and charging facilities

Along with phone charging, there were lots of phone stands for customers. Without one, you end up propping a phone at an angle against a water pitcher or something to put on a video, right? I really loved these facilities that were clearly for visitors. And of course, there was a microwave for baby food and high chairs, too.

There is Hallabong juice as a review-event gift, so join in and get yourself a juice! Seeing the Jeju makgeolli made me want to try it. But with the kids and the rest of our itinerary ahead, I held back.

Jeju radish tea and kimchi served instead of water

The most unusual thing on the table was the Jeju radish tea served instead of water. It was toasty and clean-tasting. The kids did not drink it at first because it felt unfamiliar, but then they went and read about its benefits and started drinking it after that. It paired well with the noodles, and it was memorable because it is not something you often see at other restaurants.

And the kimchi here is seriously amazing. When the kimchi is bad with noodles, it is such a letdown, right? It cannot be just me! The owner is serious about kimchi and says that, after making kimchi more than a hundred times, the tastiest was Hakkasan Kimchi. They use Hakkasan Kimchi because they wanted to serve customers the best-tasting kimchi even if it costs more. It really was delicious.

Kiosk ordering and free baby noodles

You can order at the kiosk, where the serving times for dombe pork are also displayed separately. That lets you estimate the wait in advance. I checked those times while planning our visit, too!

Another thing that surprised me at Myeonjumak was that baby noodles are free for children under 36 months. At that age, it can be awkward to order a separate meal for them, right? The children can order baby noodles while the parents simply get what they want!

And when adding menu items, I was delighted by the no-scallion option, haha. Our kids do not eat scallions, so after ordering, we always have to remember to ask for them to be left out. It was great to be able to select it directly. We ordered pork noodle soup, spicy mixed pork noodles, dombe pork, and one bowl of rice.

Jeju black pork dombe pork with jarijeot

First out was the black pork dombe pork. Dombe pork is boiled pork sliced thickly and served on a cutting board. “Dombe” means “cutting board” in the Jeju dialect, which is how the dish got its name. It really did arrive neatly arranged on a wooden board. With just the right amount of fat and lean meat, it looked appetizing from the moist sheen alone.

A sign beside it said it was 100% Jeju black pork and a certified seller of Jeju pork. Since we had come all the way to Jeju, we had to eat something made with local ingredients.

A plate of Jeju black pork dombe pork

I do not usually like pork with a lot of fat, but wow, this was just right, with a great balance.

This is jarijeot, a salted fermented fish condiment. It was my first time trying it on this Jeju trip, and I learned it is made with damselfish. The jarijeot was salty and full of savory depth—it was such a great little kick.

Dombe pork with jarijeot and chili

Nothing complicated: I added a little jarijeot and one chili, wrapped it up, and ate it. The clean flavor of the pork, the aroma of Cheongyang chili, and the savory richness all came together so deliciously. I would have regretted skipping the dombe pork!!

The dombe pork came out before the noodles, and with four of us going at it, I could see it disappearing in no time. It was really, really good.

Pink rice made with red yeast rice

The rice served with it was a striking pink, and the kids were fascinated by the color right away.

Pink rice cooked with red yeast rice

The restaurant notice said it was cooked with red yeast rice. Honestly, it was my first time seeing red yeast rice, too, after coming to Jeju. It is called a natural blood-vessel cleanser and said to lower cholesterol, help prevent high blood pressure, and aid digestion. More than plain white rice, it looked pretty in photos and felt like a small special detail found while traveling.

Clean-tasting pork noodle soup and tangy, spicy mixed noodles

The pork noodle soup had a generous topping of Jeju black pork over its milky broth. The broth was rich without feeling overly greasy, so I kept reaching for another spoonful.

It was a deep beef-bone broth, but not harsh—clean and mild in style. The kids ate the non-spicy pork noodle soup comfortably, too. My second child is a very picky eater, but kept asking for more.

And this is the spicy mixed pork noodles!

Wow, this one was topped with so much pork, too.

The spicy mixed pork noodles were exactly my kind of thing.

Tangy, spicy pork mixed noodles

The tangy, spicy sauce, medium-thick noodles, and pork made an even better combination.

Mixed noodles eaten with pork

Our oldest happily munched away, wrapping noodles with pork. I had no idea the kids would eat pork noodle soup this well. Later they asked whether there was any more, and I thought, “We should have ordered the large portion.”

Why we ordered pork noodles and dombe pork together

If you order pork noodle soup, mixed noodles, and dombe pork together like we did, you can alternate between warm broth, spicy noodles, and mild pork! And try the anchovy broth, too. It was delicious!

Myeonjumak Jeju Main Branch opens at 9 a.m., making it a good choice for breakfast or an early lunch. If you are looking for a restaurant near Eco Land, want Jeju pork noodles, and need a spacious place that is easy to enter with kids, it checks those boxes. I also liked that travel-friendly amenities—ample parking, children’s tableware, a broth bar, radish tea, and a charging corner—were all in one place.

If you are passing along Beonyeong-ro during an eastern Jeju trip, or looking for a hearty meal near Eco Land or Jeju Stone Park, try Myeonjumak Jeju Main Branch for pork noodle soup, mixed noodles, and dombe pork together.
