Couple's coffee break with nutty beans and choco sand cookie: T

My husband and I ran some errands in Seongsu and went looking for a place to sit down with coffee, so we stopped by T Coffee.

Seongsu gets packed no matter where you go on weekends. This Seongsu café we visited had a quiet atmosphere and plenty of seating room, so it was easy to settle in comfortably. Here's our little writeup of the Seongsu station café where we chatted and relaxed together.

It's about 488m from Seongsu Station Exit 2. Even walking slowly it wasn't a burdensome distance, and there's a sign out front reading 'T coffee' — just head down to the basement level.

Wouldn't a basement feel cramped?

Since this Seongsu café is tucked in a basement, I'll admit I worried a little before going in that it might be dim or stuffy inside — but once we stepped in, it was brighter and more pleasant than I expected.

Inside there are wood-toned tables and chairs, with bamboo visible through a long floor-to-ceiling window. Most of all, there were surprisingly many seats for the café's size, enough that we were almost torn on where to sit. The tables were spaced out fairly generously too. It wasn't noisy when we visited, so my husband and I could talk comfortably.

It also looked like a decent spot to open a laptop or read alone, so this seemed like a space that fans of a quiet Seongsu station café would appreciate.

Menu and bean selection

In front of the counter there were dessert models and a menu board, so we browsed a bit before ordering. Of the various desserts, we picked the square-shaped choco sand cookie.

For coffee, you could choose the beans to your taste, and we both went with the nutty option. We tend to prefer comfortable, nutty coffee over beans with strong acidity, so this kind of choice was a welcome one. Being able to order to your own taste was one of the memorable things about this Seongsu café.

How the Americano and choco sand cookie tasted

The two Americanos and choco sand cookie came out looking so clean we photographed them together first. The Americano made with nutty beans had a smooth aroma and a clean finish.

It wasn't too bitter or heavy, so it went perfectly with slowly enjoying the dessert. We'd considered one of the bigger, flashier cafés nearby, but that day a Seongsu café where we could rest comfortably appealed to us more than a place for photos. Compared with a crowded Seongsu station café, it also seemed easier for conversation or focusing alone.

Feeling that sense of ease in the middle of bustling Seongsu, I understood why people go looking for a quiet Seongsu station café.

The choco sand cookie was slightly crisp on the outside with a soft cream inside. The cream layer between the cookies was thicker than I expected, and the chocolate's sweetness came through richly.

Taking a bite of the sweet cookie and then sipping the cold Americano cleaned up the sweetness nicely — the pairing worked well.

When's a good day to go?

This seems like a great fit less for café-hopping and more for a day when you need a quiet break, or for people looking for a Seongsu café to study or use a laptop in.

It was a place where my husband and I relaxed over coffee without rushing, so next time we're in Seongsu I want to try a different bean. If you're looking for a Seongsu station café with plenty of seating, T Coffee is worth remembering.
