Mixed naengmyeon and warm broth in Jinju: Songgiwon Jinju Naengmyeon

In short

Songgiwon Jinju Naengmyeon Direct Store is a Jinju naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodle) restaurant at 49 Cheonsu-ro in Jinju, Gyeongnam, with its own parking lot and single, group, and kids' seating. On a first trip to Jinju, the writer ordered the Sunjo 1800 Jinju mul-naengmyeon, the Songgiwon 1997 mixed naengmyeon with extra noodles, ujeon (Korean beef yukjeon), and Jinju jangsaeng doraji traditional liquor, and found the self-serve warm broth a highlight. The mixed naengmyeon suited the writer's taste better than the water version, and the extra noodles made it a generous portion.

This was my very first trip to Jinju, and while looking up where to go, I found this place — apparently famous even among Jinju locals. I wanted to make sure I ate proper Jinju naengmyeon on this trip, so this was exactly where I headed.

Spacious dedicated parking lot next to the restaurant

There's a dedicated parking lot right next to the restaurant, and it's pretty spacious, so it was easy to visit by car.

Once inside, there was plenty of seating too. I arrived about 30 minutes before break time, and the staff were busy tidying up, but they still let me in — I was so grateful 🥹💛🥹💛

The menu and the self-serve warm broth

Besides naengmyeon, the menu also had ujeon and galbitang (short rib soup), among others. We ordered Jinju naengmyeon along with the ujeon (beef yukjeon, pan-fried beef fritter).

Extra side dishes are self-serve, and you really have to try the warm broth here!! I had a warm cup, and it was better than expected — I kept going back for more even before the noodles arrived.

What we ordered

How does the Sunjo 1800 Jinju mul-naengmyeon taste?

Sunjo 1800 Jinju mul-naengmyeon

First, we started with the basic Jinju mul-naengmyeon (water naengmyeon). It's said to be the most classic version, letting you savor Songgiwon's deep, clean flavor, and it came topped with pork yukjeon, which made it look really appetizing right off the bat.

Chewy noodles lifted from the water naengmyeon

The noodles were on the chewier side, and the broth had a subtle savory depth. Rather than hitting you with an intense flavor, it's clean and mild in a way that keeps you eating — even as a Jinju naengmyeon first-timer, I enjoyed it without feeling overwhelmed!

Songgiwon 1997 mixed naengmyeon — how big is it with extra noodles?

And this was the dish I especially loved! This is the Jinju mixed naengmyeon topped with two signature sauces developed by head chef Songgiwon along with a seafood broth. I usually gravitate toward the mul-bi-naeng style (part water, part spicy), so personally this mixed version suited my taste even better.

Jinju mixed naengmyeon being mixed with its seasoning

The seafood broth and sauce came together with really good depth, and the more I mixed the noodles, the more the seasoning soaked in. On top of that, we added extra noodles, and the portion ended up enormous. If you're looking for a Jinju naengmyeon spot that's generous with portions too, this is definitely it.

Korean beef ujeon and Jinju jangsaeng doraji traditional liquor

Can't skip the ujeon we ordered alongside the noodles. It's made with 1++ (9) grade Korean beef, trimmed and aged, then pan-fried in 100% domestic buckwheat flour.

We cut it into big pieces with scissors and dipped it lightly in soy sauce — delicious on its own, and it felt completely different paired with the naengmyeon. I finally understood why the naengmyeon-and-yukjeon combo is so famous in Jinju.

We also tried the Jinju jangsaeng doraji traditional liquor. It's described as 'time of life shaped by earth,' brewed with 21-year-old doraji (bellflower root) — a Jinju traditional liquor with a subtle aroma that paired well with the food.

How was my first naengmyeon on a Jinju trip?

Since this was the very first Jinju naengmyeon I tried on my very first trip to Jinju, it left an extra strong impression. With a spacious dedicated parking lot, plenty of indoor seating, and menu options beyond naengmyeon like yukjeon and galbitang, it seemed like a good spot to visit with family too. Above all, the mixed naengmyeon suited my taste more than the water version, and the warm broth was delicious too — so if you're on the hunt for a great Jinju naengmyeon spot, this one's worth a stop. A great meal on my first-ever trip to Jinju :)
