Jinju family restaurant for cold noodles and yukjeon: Songgiwon
In short
Songgiwon Jinju Naengmyeon Direct Store is a Jinju naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodle) specialist in Jinju, Gyeongnam, carrying on a 100-year tradition. On a family trip, four of us shared the water naengmyeon 'Sunjo 1800' (₩13,000), the mixed naengmyeon 'Nongae' (₩13,000) and yukjeon (pan-fried beef, ₩25,000), and picked up kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) from the self-serve side dish bar. Everything tasted clean and mild rather than sharp, which suited my parents' palates and makes Songgiwon an easy recommendation for a family meal in Jinju.

Why we chose Songgiwon Jinju Naengmyeon on a family trip to Jinju
We visited Jinju, Gyeongnam this weekend for a family trip, and the most famous thing here is Jinju naengmyeon at Songgiwon, a place carrying on a full 100 years of history and tradition. This dish dates back over 400 years to something enjoyed by Joseon-era noble families and the royal court, so you can taste tradition in a really special way here. Let me show you around, piece by piece.

Parking and first impressions: the pine-landscaped entrance
Songgiwon Jinju Naengmyeon is on the first floor, and there's a large parking area right in front, plus staff on hand to help you park! You can pull right into an open spot without any hassle.
The first impression was great even before we walked in. The space in front of the store is beautifully decorated, and pine trees and tidy landscaping are placed tastefully throughout. It doesn't feel like just a restaurant plopped down somewhere — the surrounding area is kept clean and neat too, so I already felt relaxed before even going inside! If you're coming to eat with your parents especially, this quiet, atmospheric setting is perfect for taking photos to remember the day and for good conversation.

How long is the lunchtime wait at Songgiwon?
There were so many people, I was honestly surprised!
We visited right around lunchtime, and the tables were already packed all the way to the back. It's clearly popular, and with plenty of staff on hand, orders and service moved fast — it left an impression of everything running like a well-oiled system.

Songgiwon Jinju Naengmyeon menu and prices
- Songgiwon 1997 [signature dish] ₩14,000
- Sunjo 1800 ₩13,000
- Nongae 1393 ₩13,000
- Yukjeon ₩25,000

We grabbed this kkakdugi (radish kimchi) separately from the self-serve side dish corner! Since not all the side dishes come out with the table setting, make sure to head to the self-serve bar and try at least one extra — everything there is delicious.

What a family of four ordered: water naengmyeon, mixed naengmyeon and yukjeon
Our family ordered the classic Jinju water naengmyeon 'Sunjo 1800,' the Jinju mixed naengmyeon 'Nongae 1593,' and yukjeon to share. Mom and Dad split the water and mixed noodles between them, and we did the same thing so everyone could try a bit of each — sensible move, since sticking to just one dish would've been such a shame.

Yukjeon (pan-fried beef) at ₩25,000: bigger than the plate
The 'yukjeon' (pan-fried beef) came out looking the most appetizing of all — freshly cooked and, at a glance, clearly bigger than the plate it was served on.
The thinly pan-fried beef had a lovely savory aroma, and its soft texture paired really well with the cold noodles. The dipping sauce that came with it wasn't salty or harsh at all — clean and light, and it cut right through any greasiness.

What does the Sunjo 1800 water naengmyeon broth taste like?
The water naengmyeon left an impression with that deep, clean flavor unique to Jinju naengmyeon. It's not bland or watery at all though — it's clean but has a rich, refreshing broth flavor that makes you want to keep drinking it. There's a subtle savory depth to it, and I really did drink the broth down to the last drop!

Slurping the noodles down with the broth, the clean yet deep flavors came together so well that I kept eating without feeling weighed down at all. And the toppings were perfect too! 😘

Nongae mixed naengmyeon and its seafood soy sauce
The mixed naengmyeon had a clearly different charm from the water version. It's topped with a house-developed sauce made from seafood soy sauce, and the spicy-tangy seasoning combined with that savory depth really woke up my appetite — perfect. And yet there was nothing harsh, overly spicy, or salty about it.

Why Songgiwon was a good fit for dining with my parents
Overall, the food suited my parents' palates perfectly, and it was a meaningful time getting to properly experience traditional flavors without anything harsh or salty. It sat easy on the stomach, the atmosphere was great, and the pottery decorations around the space left an impression too.

If you're looking for a place for a family meal in Jinju, or want to properly try Jinju naengmyeon, this is well worth a stop :) We wrapped up the meal in a good mood, taking in the pretty exterior and garden scenery as we left.
