Gwangju restaurant for abalone cream risotto: Bueokgan Suwan

I visited Bueokgan Suwan Branch, one of Gwangju's great Western-style restaurants, for the first time in a while :)

Bueokgan is a European-style restaurant. The exterior is full of charm, too. I’d love to eat at a terrace table when the weather is nice!

Inside, the interior felt warm and cozy. I recently visited the Sangmu Branch, and this interior had a slightly different feel, so it felt fresh again ✨ It has such a nice atmosphere that I think it would be great for a date or a family meal, too.

• Salads & sides: Napa cabbage Caesar salad, mushroom grill salad, kabocha squash soup, pastry soup, fried sweet potato
• Pasta: shrimp anchovy oil pasta, vongole pasta, carbonara, seafood tomato pasta, basil pesto cream pasta

There were plenty of choices, from salads and pasta to risotto, pizza, and steak. Prices were reasonable at around ₩20,000 except for steak.

Three orders, from salad to risotto

Here’s what I ordered! Mushroom grill salad Shrimp anchovy oil pasta Abalone cream risotto I wanted to try a bit of everything, so I ordered a salad, pasta, and risotto. They looked so delicious from the start, and the portions were quite generous too~~~✨

Mushroom grill salad

It came with grilled mini king oyster mushrooms and oyster mushrooms, topped with fresh vegetables and nuts. Grilled mushrooms are my absolute favorite, so I had to order it! Eating it with the pasta and risotto made it a great in-between bite, and a mouthful of salad after the mains made my palate feel refreshed!

Shrimp anchovy oil pasta

This is my favorite menu item that I order every time I visit Bueokgan. It’s their signature oil pasta with fresh shrimp and anchovies, and it looks delicious from the very first glance. The seasoning was just right, and the pasta’s texture and sauce worked so well together! It’s a can’t-go-wrong choice, so I recommend it 💛

Abalone cream risotto

The rich abalone innards sauce and cream went beautifully with the abalone and clam meat, with delicate fried enoki mushrooms on top. The cream sauce wasn’t bland at all, thanks to that distinct seafood flavor, and the bites of abalone and clam meat were delicious. This is another must-order item whenever I come to Bueokgan 💛

A meal with all three dishes

This time, I tried three dishes at Bueokgan Suwan Branch. Each one tasted great overall, and they made a lovely combination together. It was such a nice meal—I felt like I’d finally enjoyed a delicious Western-style meal at a relaxed pace!! This place has it all, from atmosphere to flavor. As always, Bueokgan never disappoints~~~~
