Dim sum and knife-cut noodles after a Gwanghwamun show: Cheonghwa

We went to see a performance in Gwanghwamun and it felt like a waste to just head straight home! Taiwanese food was something I'd been craving most ever since having the baby!!! I especially wanted dim sum made the way it's made locally. Since it's prepared by a chef specialized in Chinese cooking, I could really taste that authenticity :)
Right around there we found Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon, known as a Gwanghwamun dim sum spot, and rushed right over — and the result was total satisfaction!!! I wanted to brag about it immediately~!
Where is Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon, and what are the hours?
Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon sits right in front of the Olive Young at 19 Jongno. It was my first time in this part of Gwanghwamun, so I navigated by looking for the beef noodle place — if you just head for Olive Young, you'll find it in no time.

Weeknight mood and the second-floor seats
Maybe because it was a weekday evening, the place was packed with people who'd just gotten off work! Everyone was in the mood for a beer with their Taiwanese food, haha. I thought the seats were full, but Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon has internal stairs, so the second floor was also open for seating~
The dim sum photos out front and scattered around the restaurant got my appetite going, and I ended up walking straight in, haha.
The four dishes two people ordered
Today we ordered the best-seller shumai, kkwabaerou, and two dishes we love — eggplant fritters and yubal dosakmyeon! The eggplant fritters and yubal dosakmyeon were genuinely delicious too. Owner!!! Please add them to the best-seller list too, haha.
Here comes uyuk dosakmyeon (beef knife-cut noodles), shumai, kkwabaerou, and eggplant fritters!
I worried whether two people could finish four dishes, but we did!!! Full as we were, everything was so good we couldn't stop! Seriously, every single dish was delicious, haha.
Shumai (steamed pork dumplings)
This is a shumai dumpling I'd strongly recommend! Best dim sum I've had so far, honestly? Better than the dim sum I had in Hong Kong, ugh.
My husband said he wanted to order another whole plate, but we'd already ordered so much... we let it go. I think we'll order it again next time we're out in Gwanghwamun!!!!
Fried eggplant
I ordered this because it reminded me of the eggplant fritters I had in Macau, and wow~ amazing! The eggplant was fried crispy with great texture, and the sauce was the best part! How can they make it this delicious... if this place were near my house I'd eat it all the time, haha. Definitely order this!
Kkwabaerou (sweet and sour pork)
As always, kkwabaerou is unstoppable! I love it so much that I always order it at mala tang places too. Soft sirloin fried up crispy — the texture here was on another level, haha.
Yubal dosakmyeon (soy and scallion oil knife-cut noodles)
Wow, how do they get such a unique flavor? I'd only had uyuk dosakmyeon before — this was my first time with yubal dosakmyeon, and it was distinctive and delicious! Compared to uyuk dosakmyeon, yubal dosakmyeon is totally more my style!!!! Turns out the dough is aged for a day. It's a mixed noodle dish made with soy sauce and scallion oil. Paired with kkwabaerou, the balance was just right! I even scraped up all the meat, haha.
Is Cheonghwa worth it for Chinese food in Gwanghwamun?
Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon — Taiwanese food we ate coming out to Gwanghwamun after a while! I was amazed at how delicious it could be!!!
Shumai, kkwabaerou, eggplant fritters, yubal dosakmyeon — everything we ate was top-tier. These dishes work perfectly whether you're eating solo, for lunch, dinner, or a late-night meal! If a friend asks me for a Gwanghwamun restaurant recommendation, this is the place I'd suggest. I'm definitely planning to go back. Give Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon in Jongno a try :)
