Seochon Korean restaurant date: gamtae perilla oil noodles at SABAL

In short

SABAL is a Korean restaurant in Seochon, Jongno, Seoul, about a 10-minute walk from Exit 7 of Gyeongbokgung Station, on the first floor of Kyunghee Palace Morning Complex 3. The writer ordered gamtae (dried seaweed) perilla oil noodles for 17,000 won, a tangtang octopus and deodeok gochujang rice set for 17,000 won, and SABAL's mini tteokbokki, with hot broth served on the side so the noodles worked either chilled or warm. Between the black-toned exterior, the terrace and the gallery-like dining room, SABAL suits a family meal and a date in Seochon equally well.

I ordered the gamtae (dried seaweed) perilla oil noodles, the tangtang octopus deodeok gochujang rice, and SABAL mini tteokbokki ~~!! 😍😍

Gamtae perilla oil noodles ordered at SABAL

What do the gamtae perilla oil noodles taste like?

First up is SABAL's gamtae perilla oil noodles (₩17,000)!! The nutty aroma of perilla oil, the texture of the mushrooms, and the chewy noodles came together so, so deliciously ㅠㅠ It's an especially gentle combination on the stomach even though it's noodles, so it's easy to eat without any burden 🫶🏻 I think parents would really love it too!!

It's especially delicious wrapped in the gamtae (dried seaweed) like this!!! Highly recommend ❤️

They also gave hot broth on the side, so depending on your preference you could eat it cold or warm, which was really nice~

Tangtang octopus and deodeok gochujang rice set: rice and noodles together

Next up is the tangtang octopus deodeok gochujang rice (₩17,000)!! Can you see how much octopus there is!!? It's so generous that you get a chewy octopus bite no matter which part you eat 👍🏻 And the deodeok (mountain root) gochujang is a base that really brings out the savory depth, so it was delicious. It's not too spicy either, so even people sensitive to spice can enjoy it fully!!!!

If you order the tangtang octopus deodeok gochujang rice as a set, noodles come with it like this, and they were delicious too~~!! Maybe because they're fresh noodles, they were very chewy 🤍 If you're dining solo or can't decide between noodles and rice, I highly recommend this kind of set menu!

Is SABAL's mini tteokbokki really mini?

Next is the SABAL mini tteokbokki I ordered as a side!! But is it really mini?? ㅋㅋㅋ The portion was really big~ Not too spicy or overpowering, just that rich, savory tteokbokki flavor with chewy rice cakes — so, so delicious!! ❤️

Pumpkin porridge served before the meal with three basic side dishes

A pumpkin porridge comes out before the meal, and it had a deeper flavor rather than a sweet one!! Great for whetting the appetite. There were also 3 side dishes, each neatly prepared and really tasty 😚

Why SABAL works as a Seochon and Gyeongbokgung date spot

It's been a while since I had such a delicious, feel-good meal at a Korean restaurant!! 😍 I think parents would love it too, and it's a great date spot as well. The menu is varied with plenty of rice and noodle options, so you'll have a lot of happy deciding to do!! I'd absolutely come back!!! If you're near Gyeongbokgung Station, definitely check it out~
