A late drink in Daehangno: why Hanamato Daehangno Hyehwa works

I was trying to figure out where to go for a light drink in Hyehwa and ended up at Hanamato Daehangno Hyehwa!! Daehangno has so many good restaurants and bars that it's hard to choose, but this place is close enough to walk from Hyehwa Station, so accessibility was really good.

It's especially great as a second stop after watching a play or performance in Daehangno — no pressure at all!!! Here's my review of Hanamato Daehangno Hyehwa, a neighborhood-style bar where you can settle in comfortably around Hyehwa Daehangno.

Inside Hanamato: the entrance and the open-air second floor

Above all, Hanamato's atmosphere caught my eye even before I walked in haha. The exterior really has that Japanese pub feel, and the interior carries that distinct izakaya mood too, so opening the door felt like a mini trip to Japan for a moment 💛💛💛

The open-air seating vibe is amazing too ㅠㅠ I've been wanting to travel to Japan a lot lately, and it was kind of fun realizing I could get this atmosphere without going far, right here in Hyehwa..???? hahaha

There are Japanese-style props and interior details everywhere, so it's great for photos too haha

With the windows open like outdoor seating, the mood up there was great too, and there's group seating as well, so it's good for visiting with several people!!

What we ordered: 50,900 won for two

The two of us ate until we were completely full and it only came to ₩50,000-ish haha. Best budget-friendly bar in Hyehwa 💛

Charcoal yakitori, 5 skewers for 13,000 won

First up was the charcoal yakitori 5 skewers for ₩13,000! At a Japanese-style izakaya, skewers are a must, right! Being grilled over charcoal, there's a subtle smoky flavor, and being able to try several kinds of skewers at once made it a great pairing for drinks.

Picking up one skewer at a time while sipping a drink was great, and it worked well for sharing too. And ₩13,000 for five skewers isn't too pricey considering current Daehangno prices!

Tori karaage, 12,000 won

Tori karaage, ₩12,000. A special frying method lets you taste the ingredient's natural flavor along with a crispy texture! Crispy fried chicken with a drink — no words needed haha. Crisp outside, juicy inside — that signature karaage texture kept me reaching for more!!!

If you're visiting with several people, this is a good one to order once and share, so if you're torn on which side dish to order at a Japanese-style bar, karaage seems like a solid choice.

Yakisoba, 10,000 won

Yakisoba is a Japanese-style stir-fried noodle dish with noodles and ingredients fried together, so it works well as a drink pairing but also fine as a meal on its own. After just eating skewers, sometimes you crave carbs, and that's when ordering a yakisoba to share is just perfect hahaha. There was a lot of shrimp in it too, which I loved.

They give you a highball if you leave a Naver review, so definitely haha don't miss out, everyone should grab that

Gyoza dumplings, 4,900 won

We also ordered gyoza dumplings for ₩4,900. At that price, it was easy to add as a side while ordering several other dishes!! When you're drinking, it's nice to have lighter items like dumplings or skewers alongside a main dish rather than just one, right~~~??? The gyoza was affordable enough to add on without hesitation!! haha

Beef beansprout stir-fry, 9,000 won

And another dish we ordered was the beef beansprout stir-fry for ₩9,000! Beef stir-fried with beansprouts, it paired well with the greasier dishes like yakitori and karaage!! The crunchy texture of the beansprouts made it good as a drink pairing, and at ₩9,000, it's a solid pick when you want to try a variety of dishes haha.

Who should visit Hanamato Daehangno Hyehwa?

After ordering all this, I understood why Hanamato is talked about as a budget-friendly bar~ From skewers to yakisoba, karaage, gyoza dumplings and beef beansprout stir-fry, there's a wide variety of Japanese-style side dishes, so it's great for a group to each pick what they want to eat!!

Personally, I loved the atmosphere most.💛💛💛 The Japanese-style interior and menu give you that Japan feeling, but it still has a comfortable neighborhood-bar vibe, so it was easy to sit for a long time haha.

It would suit anyone meeting friends in Hyehwa for a light drink, looking for a second stop after watching a play, or who just enjoys that izakaya atmosphere. And being open until late is a big plus! It's walkable from Hyehwa Station and open until 3am, so it's a great option when you want to keep drinking late in Daehangno. Great for group gatherings, dates, all of it, highly recommend.
