Sinsa seafood pub with rock octopus and Jeju bossam: Parang Haenyeojip

In short

Parang Haenyeojip Sinsa Direct Store is a seafood Korean pub on Garosugil in Gangnam, Seoul, a 5-minute walk from Sinsa Station. Mid-diet but with a dinner plan to keep, the writer ordered the rock octopus with Jeju bossam (34,000 won), a bottle of cheongha and a side of sushi rice, and two women left full. Parang Haenyeojip serves plenty of protein-led dishes and stays quiet enough to hold a conversation.

Dieting or watching your diet, and a drinking plan suddenly gets set? That's when you should head to 'Parang Haenyeojip,' a seafood restaurant on Sinsa Garosugil where you can get your protein in and still enjoy a night out healthily! For someone like me who has to order protein-heavy snacks no matter what bar I'm at, this place was perfect.

As someone who's been on a maintenance diet 365 days a year, I loved that the food here — sashimi, bossam (boiled pork wraps) and the like — was protein-focused, so I didn't feel guilty. The seafood menu is varied and reasonably priced too, so I think I'll be back once yellowtail season hits — Sinsa's 'Parang Haenyeojip.'

I went out with a close friend to Sinsa Garosugil, and around 8 PM I got hungry at an awkward hour, so we looked for somewhere with a healthy meal and ended up here haha. By 8 PM, pretty much only bars were still open, which turned out to be the perfect choice for two women on a diet 😌

It was a Wednesday evening but only one table was free — we barely got a seat. On Friday and Saturday nights you'd definitely need a reservation!

With yellowtail sashimi, cuttlefish sashimi, aged sashimi, bossam, futomaki, and mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) among the many seafood options, this feels like a place you can go worry-free even if a dinner plan pops up suddenly while you're watching your diet 😌 Sashimi is usually meant to go with soju, but you don't actually need to drink — you can order bossam or futomaki instead and have a delicious, protein-packed dinner haha. It's a drinking spot, but the interior wasn't loud, which was a nice bonus for actually talking while eating 👍

What to order at Parang Haenyeojip

  • Assorted aged sashimi (Small ₩45,000 / Medium ₩69,000 / Large ₩98,000) — the small starting at ₩45,000 makes it a great value option.
  • Haenyeo Box (₩58,000) — a combo platter of aged sashimi, king haenyeo gimbap, seafood, and steamed dishes
  • 🐙 Raw octopus and Jeju bossam (₩34,000) — Jeju pork slow-cooked for 8 hours at low temperature, paired with domestic raw octopus
  • King haenyeo gimbap (full roll ₩23,000 / half roll ₩12,000) — like a giant futomaki made with the day's sashimi. If a full roll feels like too much, get the half roll with bossam!
  • Cold mulhoe makguksu (buckwheat noodles, ₩38,000)

Oddly enough, I can't eat much sashimi alone before I get sick of it 😭 I always need something spicy like maeuntang (spicy fish stew) alongside it, and this place has options like Yeonpyeongdo minari crab stew and spicy seafood tteokbokki, which looked great to pair with the sashimi!

Order laid out on the table at Parang Haenyeojip

That day we ordered the raw octopus and Jeju bossam, a bottle of cheongha, and sushi rice.

Raw octopus and Jeju bossam, a high-protein dish at Parang Haenyeojip on Sinsa Garosugil

See how generous the portion is?? Two of us ate like this and were completely full and satisfied. I usually like eating protein with vegetables for dinner anyway, so this combo was exactly my taste 🤤

Bossam pork and octopus sashimi served with napa cabbage
Side dishes of ssamjang, aged kimchi, and cheongyang peppers

Wrapping the bossam pork and octopus sashimi in napa cabbage with ssamjang (dipping sauce), aged kimchi, and cheongyang peppers was really delicious haha.

Wrapping it in lettuce was great, but I also enjoyed putting octopus sashimi with wasabi on the sushi rice, sushi-style, and the tangy sushi rice went really well with the bossam pork too — you can enjoy it however you like 🤩 Dipping the octopus in chojang (vinegar chili sauce) was also delicious. At ₩34,000, it's generous, tasty, and healthy — perfect as a snack for those days when you're managing your diet but can't avoid a drinking plan.

Is Parang Haenyeojip on Garosugil worth it?

For days when you can't avoid drinking plans even while watching your diet, I highly recommend Parang Haenyeojip, a seafood restaurant in Sinsa-dong 😍 The variety of protein-focused dishes meant I could enjoy myself without guilt, and the quiet dining room made it easy to eat comfortably while chatting haha.

I recommend this to anyone who wants a healthy drink on Sinsa Garosugil! Next time I'm coming back for yellowtail sashimi and cheongha 😊
