Solo lunch at a Noryangjin ramen restaurant: spicy ramen set, Chome

In short

Chome is a Japanese ramen restaurant a 5-minute walk from Exit 3 of Noryangjin Station in Dongjak, Seoul. The lunch special spicy (karai) ramen set came with futomaki, 3 pieces of karaage and a glass of draft beer, and Chome also offers noodle and rice refills plus a self-bar with cheongyang peppers and chili flakes for adjusting the heat. Chome works just as well for finishing a bowl of ramen alone as it does for a group sharing sides.

Hi, I'm Ddungddaengi~ I was craving ramen after a while, so I went to Chome near Noryangjin Station, a great spot for a solo meal haha

Where is Chome? A 5-minute walk from Noryangjin Station Exit 3

I visited craving Japanese ramen! Walking in, I felt the distinct atmosphere of a Japanese ramen shop, and it wasn't uncomfortable to visit alone, so it seemed like a good spot to swing by for a simple meal. Ordering was easy via the tablet set up at the table, so I could look through the menu slowly before choosing what I wanted.

I ordered the lunch special spicy ramen set together with futomaki, 3 pieces of karaage, and a draft beer haha. Eating the ramen alongside the side dishes made for a pretty filling meal.

The basic table setting and Chome's self-bar

There was a self-bar set up on one side of the restaurant! Cheongyang peppers, chili flakes, water, and pickled radish were prepared there, so I could take as much as I needed. Adding cheongyang peppers or chili flakes while eating the ramen was especially good for boosting the spice level to my taste!

The spicy karai ramen: egg and chashu toppings, noodle and rice refills

The first thing I want to introduce is the spicy ramen I ordered as my main! With egg and chashu toppings on top, it looked really appetizing haha. Eating the noodles with the warm broth, I could taste the deep flavor unique to Japanese-style ramen, and eating the toppings along with the noodles made it feel even richer!

Especially with ramen, the combination of broth and noodles matters a lot, and the broth soaked into the noodles just enough that I could taste it with every bite haha. I started off eating it plain, but it was also nice to use the garlic, cheongyang peppers, and chili flakes from the self-bar to adjust the flavor to my taste

Noodles and rice are refillable, so it'd be great for people with a big appetite!!

Futomaki: a mild bite between spoonfuls of ramen

Next up is the futomaki (thick sushi roll). I liked that I could order futomaki at a ramen restaurant. It's quite a thick style to eat in one bite, so I could taste all the different fillings coming together at once haha. While the ramen is a warm, rich broth dish, the futomaki was light and had varied textures from its many ingredients, so they made a great pairing together haha. Alternating between ramen and futomaki as I ate changed up the mood of the flavors, so the meal never felt boring haha

Three pieces of karaage and a glass of draft beer

I also tried the 3-piece karaage (fried chicken) I ordered as a side. It was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, so it went well with the ramen! Adding a piece of karaage in between bites of warm ramen gave the meal an extra crunchy texture that made it feel more filling haha. Since it was just 3 pieces, the portion wasn't overwhelming, and it was a good amount when ordered alongside other menu items!

I also ordered a glass of draft beer to go with the food. It came in a size closer to a paper cup rather than a typical large beer glass, so it was nice and light to pair with the meal! Sipping the cold draft beer alongside salty, warm dishes like the ramen or karaage went really well together haha

Is Chome worth it for solo diners and groups?

I thought it was a good place to visit alone and cleanly finish a bowl of ramen, and also a decent spot for a group to visit and share sides like futomaki or karaage. If you'd like to enjoy Japanese-style ramen along with a variety of side dishes, I'd recommend a visit! They're also running a review event, so keep that in mind.
