Cheongdam hair salon 6-step scalp care instead of a perm: Anew Hair

In short

Anew Hair Cheongdam Main Branch is a hair consulting salon a 3-minute walk from Exit 2 of Gangnam-gu Office Station in Gangnam, Seoul. Wanting more volume, the writer went in for a perm but was told the hair was thin and weak, so the plan changed to a 6-step oily scalp care course — scaling, scalp cleansing, nourishing moisture, tonic, ampoule and finishing — matched to a diagnosed oily scalp. The list price of 240,000 won is steep, but the scalp felt noticeably lighter and the flaking was visibly reduced in the before/after photos.

Lately I'd been feeling like my hair had no volume and my crown felt weirdly flat and stuffy. So at first I was thinking of getting a perm to add some volume. But instead of jumping straight into a perm, I wanted an accurate diagnosis of my hair's condition and consulting on the best direction, so I went to Anew Hair Cheongdam Main Branch, known for hair consulting in Gangnam.

Where Anew Hair Cheongdam Main Branch is, and what the salon feels like

Anew Hair Cheongdam Main Branch is a 2nd-floor salon on Seolleung-ro 127-gil in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. It's a 3-minute walk from Exit 2 of Gangnam-gu Office Station on Line 7, so it was easy to reach from Cheongdam, Nonhyeon, or Apgujeong.

The waiting area at Anew Hair Cheongdam

Next to the reception desk, professional hair products were neatly displayed.

There was also a separate drink corner with a water dispenser and a coffee machine. Plenty of private lockers were available for storing personal belongings.

Lounge-style waiting table arranged with plants

There was a lounge-style waiting table with plants arranged around it, so it felt relaxed rather than cramped. The lineup of designers reportedly includes people from major premium brands like Juno and Chahong, and the salon is led by the head director.

True to the salon's slogan, 'Beauty starts from me,' I got the sense this place focuses less on simply changing your style and more on finding 'what suits me.'

As soon as I arrived at Anew Hair Cheongdam Main Branch, I checked off my visit purpose and treatment history on an iPad checklist. The consultation lasted over 30 minutes.

Counseling sheet recording hair and scalp condition

On the counseling sheet that followed, they asked in detail about my hair condition and scalp condition, as well as the image and fashion style I preferred. Based on what you check off, they consult with you and recommend the most suitable treatment direction.

But during the consultation, I heard something I didn't expect.

"Your hair is very thin and weak. If you get a perm now given your hair's current state, it could fall out right away or cause more damage. It would be better to start with scalp care to build a solid foundation first."

I'd gone in for a perm to add volume, but ended up being recommended scalp care instead. What they said felt trustworthy, so I changed my plan on the spot.

What the magnified scalp photos showed: an oily scalp

After the consultation, they used dedicated scope equipment to magnify and photograph my scalp, showing it to me directly on a monitor. Seeing the pores and hair condition right there on screen hit much harder than just hearing about it.

My scalp was diagnosed as oily, so I went ahead with the care course matched to that.

It was a massage chair, so I was comfortable the whole time haha.

The 6-step scalp care treatment, step by step

After the diagnosis, the order I was guided through was scaling → scalp cleansing → nourishing moisture → tonic → ampoule → finishing, six steps in total. First, my whole scalp was scaled with a purifying lotion, and then

cleansed with a dedicated shampoo. While lying down, fingertip pressure kept going, so it felt a lot like a massage, and my tense scalp gradually relaxed.

💡 Apparently when flaking builds up, it clogs the pores and hair can't settle in properly. A healthy pore normally grows 2–3 hairs, they told me. That's when I realized the scaling step mattered more than I'd thought.

The machine that removes flaking hands can't reach

After the shampoo, they used dedicated equipment to sweep away scalp flaking that hands alone couldn't remove.

Applying protein treatment and scalp nourishing pack

Next, a protein treatment and scalp nourishing pack were applied in order, and I could feel the tangling drop noticeably the moment they went on.

💡 They explained that treatments containing PPT protein are better for hair long-term than silicone-coating types. Rather than an instant soft feel, it's more about the hair itself becoming stronger.

Steam treatment finishing off nutrient absorption

After the nourishing pack, an ultrasonic scalp regeneration machine and fingertip pressure helped with absorption, finished off with a steam treatment to help the nutrients sink in better. Tonic and an anti-hair-loss ampoule were applied in order, followed by lotion focused on the hair, and the whole process ended with a rinse at the sink.

The blow-dry finish after the scalp care

The finishing touch was a blow-dry, with the designer drying it carefully within limits that wouldn't stress the scalp.

How the scalp felt right after the treatment

The first thing I noticed when I touched my scalp after the treatment was that it felt much lighter. My crown usually feels pressed and stuffy by the afternoon, but that feeling was clearly reduced, and my hair itself felt lighter too.

One treatment doesn't completely solve hair loss or volume concerns, but I understood why this place has a reputation for being so detailed among hair salons near Gangnam-gu Office Station.

Before and after: was the stylist's advice right?

I checked whether the advice I heard during the consultation — 'scalp care before a perm' — was true using before/after photos. The flaking that had been clogging my pores was visibly cleared away after the treatment, right there in the photos.

💡 They told me that if you have hair extensions like I do, you need to pay even more attention to scalp care. The root area of extensions tends to accumulate sweat and buildup easily, so it's better to keep a shorter cycle for flaking and pore care than with regular hair.
