Maetan-dong hair salon bob cut for wavy, thin hair in Suwon: Uaroom

As soon as the hot summer passed and a chilly breeze started blowing, I finally got the bob cut I'd been agonizing over! In your 20s, a blunt bob, mid-length bob, layered cut — anything works, but in your 30s you have to think a bit more carefully. So here's the story of my long-deliberated visit to Uaroom (우아룸), a hair salon in Maetan-dong, Suwon!

Where is Uaroom in Maetan-dong, and what are the hours and parking?

Uaroom is a hair salon at 37 Dongsuwon-ro 286beon-gil, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, 299m from Exit 3 of Maetangwonseon Station on the Suin-Bundang Line. Hours are weekdays 10:00-20:00 and weekends 10:00-19:00, and parking is in the building's first-floor lot.

They're closed only on Chuseok day itself and open every other day, so you can pick whatever date works for you! I booked mine for right after work.

Honestly, a lot of places in Suwon don't have parking, and even when they do, the lots are so narrow that new drivers can be reluctant to try. But at Uaroom you can comfortably use the building's parking lot! Even as a beginner driver, I parked easily, and if the spots are full they'll guide you separately — no worries at all!

Inside Uaroom: a layout where customers never face each other

The moment you climb the stairs to the 2nd floor, the open interior comes into view, and with the lighting just right, it felt so bright and pleasant! You always look your worst while getting your hair done, and it's a little embarrassing to keep running into other customers while looking like that, right!? They clearly put a lot of thought into the interior — the customer flow was designed so people wouldn't have to see each other's faces, minimizing any awkwardness!

Up to 3 people can shampoo at once, and it's neatly partitioned so you can't be seen from the front! These careful little touches were so nice! Shampoo is charged separately for women's and girls' cuts — I came late so I washed my hair at home, but if you have plans afterward, they'll do the shampoo and styling for you too!

They even set up chargers at the waiting seats for people getting perms or straightening, so the long wait wasn't boring at all!

Wavy, fine hair before the bob cut at Uaroom

The service I got at Uaroom was a bob cut above the shoulders. My hair naturally has a heavy wave and hasn't been permed or dyed, but it's so thin it damages easily!

Even now it's all curling up with the natural wave, looking frizzy, and different styles just weren't possible. Even my friends were like, your hair got so long~ when are you cutting it? It was getting frustrating, so I cut it to above the shoulders!

Bob cut result: weight thinned so the wave does not puff up

The designer at Uaroom straightened it with an iron so it looks even neater, but you can genuinely tell there's less curl and it's much cleaner!! For people with heavy natural wave like me, cutting a bob can round out into a ball shape, like a triangle gimbap (rice ball wrapped in seaweed). But she thinned the ends slightly and paid close attention to both length and style, so it came out looking clean!

I actually agonized a lot over the style too... but she told me that for someone like me who's not great at hair care, a light cut that's easy to blow-dry would work best, and a week after the cut, I'm honestly so satisfied!

When I washed my hair the next day it went curly again, but thanks to the styling cut that kept it from turning into a ball shape, it felt so much lighter and more refined, don't you think!? The shorter the hair, the more the cut really matters — I recommend Uaroom, the Maetan-dong hair salon!
