Where is Comma Hair & Makeup, and what are its hours?

Comma Hair & Makeup is a hair and makeup studio at 5 Donggyo-ro 25-gil, 2nd floor, Mapo-gu, Seoul, about a 5–7 minute walk from Hongik University Station Exit 1. It's open Mon–Fri 09:00–18:00 and Sat–Sun 06:00–18:00. There's no parking on site, so you'll need to use a nearby paid parking lot.

How to book Comma Hair & Makeup: deposit and late policy

I made my initial booking for Comma Hair & Makeup through Naver Reservation, and the final confirmation came after coordinating by text. There was a basic deposit, and they also sent along parking info and pre-visit prep instructions. Since it's reservation-only, arriving more than 20 minutes late counts as a no-show, so keep that in mind if you're planning a visit!

What to prepare before your appointment

▪️Come with hair fully dried after shampooing (drying is not included in the service; extra charges may apply if drying is needed) ▪️Face should have only a light moisturizer (no sunscreen) ▪️Bring any products you'd like used during the session ▪️Bring hair/makeup references (photos make for a more accurate consultation)

Parking near Comma Hair & Makeup in Hongdae

Parking is difficult around the Comma Hair & Makeup building, so you'll need to use nearby paid parking (no parking support provided). The DBM Building parking lot (about 50m from Comma Hair) is an option, but since it's a mechanical lot, mid-to-large sedans (Grandeur-size and up) can't use it. They also recommended Modu's Parking Lot or the L7 Hotel parking lot. I used the L7 Hotel lot and the parking fee was terrifying (...), so I'd suggest giving yourself extra time to check out the slightly cheaper Modu's Parking Lot instead 🥹

Four private rooms: how private is the studio?

At Comma Hair & Makeup, you head up to the 2nd floor and switch into indoor slippers, and right from the entrance the staff were incredibly welcoming.

The interior was clean and all-white overall, with a waiting area set up too.

What I especially liked about Comma Hair & Makeup was that each space is separated! Since you sometimes show up bare-faced, and the prep process can feel a bit awkward, it was nice to have it done privately. There were 4 rooms total.

There was also a photo zone that doubles as a fitting room, plus a separate locker for storing your things, which made the whole hair and makeup process really convenient.

I'd booked daily makeup and this time was in Room 2 with stylist Suyeon!

The moment I walked in, all these colors spread out in front of me... my heart skipped a beat...

I wish my own vanity looked like this ^^ Beyond the color cosmetics, there was also a huge range of base and skincare products on hand.

I got to choose between de-puffing tea and coffee, so I went with the de-puffing tea. Since you're drinking it while getting your makeup done, they even gave it a lid and straw for easy sipping — such a thoughtful touch.

Reference photos and choosing a curly wave look

While starting on the makeup, they checked whether I had any hair/makeup references. I'd found mine on Pinterest — I'd usually only ever done loose, big waves before, so this time I asked for something with more small, crimped curls. I showed them a photo with the hair and makeup I wanted, but since the cut in the reference was actually pretty different from my current hair, they suggested going for a natural look with lots of curls that would suit my current cut instead. Sounded great, so let's go.

Combination skin and lash lift checked before makeup

Before starting the makeup, they asked about my skin type first, and when I said combination-oily, they immediately picked up on my exact skin concerns... a true professional. They first used toner pads to calm redness and add hydration! Meanwhile they groomed my eyes and brows, and took care with my lashes too — since I'd had a lash lift, they mentioned in advance that applying falsies might make the angle look slightly off (though once it was all done, it looked completely natural). They built up the base makeup layer by layer with real care, and overall I could tell they were paying attention to every little detail.

The aftercare kit and the 90-minute appointment

Once the makeup is finished, Comma Hair & Makeup gives you an aftercare kit that includes the exact lip color used that day!!!! The kit also came with touch-up tips, which was great to reference whenever I needed a touch-up later. And the lip color was so pretty I'm kicking myself for not asking what it was,,

After the makeup was done, they moved onto my hair with incredibly quick hands. They paid a lot of attention to root volume and fine-tuned all the wave details — I could really feel it. Total time: 90 minutes!

Hair and makeup, done! ! ! ! ! !

I loved it so, so much. The makeup was really clean, and since my hair tends to fall out of style easily, they made sure to finish it with strong hold, taking that into account.

How the hair and makeup held up for the profile shoot

Even though it was daily makeup, the staying power and the quality were both really satisfying, and what I liked most was that they tailored everything in detail to the look I wanted plus my face and hair style. Since I was there for a profile shoot, how it would photograph mattered a lot, and it came out clean and defined without looking overdone, so the photos turned out great :) I was especially impressed that even though I sweated a bit in the heat and was out and about all day, it stayed intact all the way into the night — I honestly hated to wash it off. If you're looking for a place to get your hair and makeup done for an important event or photo shoot, I'd recommend Comma Hair & Makeup, a Hongdae hair salon! Felt like a proper princess for a day..^^ 👸 Would do it again!
