This time I got a layered cut, but instead of sitting down and starting the cut right away, they first did a consultation in a separate space. Personally, this was the part that stuck with me most. They checked what styles I usually wear, what's currently bothering me about my hair, and what I wanted done today.

It wasn't just a simple "what would you like today?" — I could talk in more detail about ongoing concerns and the direction I wanted. Since my hair had gotten heavy-looking overall as it grew out, I said I wanted to add layers to lighten it up rather than cutting off a lot of length.

After the blow-dry, she checked the cut once more and did the texturizing.
