I wanted something different to eat in Hongdae, so this time I went to Halal Steaks ✨ It's easy to find near Hongik University Station, so it's a solid pick for anyone hunting Hongdae restaurants. It's especially good if you want to properly enjoy halal food instead of the usual menu.

Where is Halal Steaks in Hongdae, and when is it open?

📍 26 Yanghwa-ro 16-gil, 2nd floor, Mapo-gu, Seoul. It's about 499m from Exit 9 of Hongik University Station, so it was fine to walk there. Come out of Exit 9 and keep walking toward the Hongik University intersection where the Apple Store is, and it's easy to find.

⏰ Hours are daily 11:00–22:00. They run the same schedule Monday through Sunday, which made it easy to plan my visit.

They have platters, sandwiches, and other menu items that are relatively simple and quick to eat. I picked this place because I had to grab a quick solo lunch and get back to work.

Is Halal Steaks good for eating alone in Hongdae?

Walking into Halal Steaks, the overall vibe was clean and comfortable. It still has that lively Hongdae energy, but it also feels relaxed enough to eat comfortably, so it seems good for both hanging out with friends and eating alone. That day I was eating solo, and there were a lot of delivery orders coming in too, plus quite a few other solo diners like me. Recommended as a Hongdae spot for eating alone ‼️

Halal Steaks' menu was more varied than I expected — halal steaks plus a range of meat dishes and platter options you can pick based on your taste. Since there's a platter option where you can try several things at once, and it was my first visit, I ordered a platter.

To enjoy my lunchtime freedom, I sat by the window. The weather's been so nice lately. Sitting by the window eating alone made me so happy. All my work stress just flew away.. ✨

And best of all, the food came out fast ‼️ It was packed full of ingredients inside, and I was especially happy with adding the olives and jalapeños. If you just keep eating meat, it can get a little greasy, but the sharp kick of the jalapeños was great to mix in between bites 🌶️ The olives had a salty flavor too, and they went really well with the meat.

I mixed everything up thoroughly, shaking it all together~ But the portion here was bigger than it looked, so I was really full by the time I finished. Next time I go, I think I'll get the small size and just add extra vegetables and olives instead. I'm sort of on a diet 🙄

The vegetables were lettuce and tomato, and they were so fresh and delicious. The combo platter has lamb in it, so there's definitely a distinct lamb smell, but since I'm a lamb lover, I actually liked that. It totally felt like exotic food ‼️ Can't believe you can get this flavor in Korea. If you're not great with lamb, I'd recommend the chicken platter — you should be able to eat that comfortably.
