Seoul Station gyukatsu double with fried egg and ramune: Ichigyu
In short
Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is a gyukatsu (Japanese-style breaded beef cutlet) restaurant on basement level 1 of the LG Seoul Station Building in Jung-gu, Seoul. On a weekday lunch visit alone, the writer ordered the gyukatsu double and added Isigny butter, a fried egg and ramune soda, grilling each slice on a personal tabletop brazier. Portions at Ichigyu are generous and solo diners fill the room, making it an easy place to eat lunch alone near Seoul Station.

Lately, for some reason, gyukatsu has been tasting incredibly good to me.
Both donkatsu and gyukatsu — why is it so good to eat crispy fried cutlet with a spoonful of rice? :) So this time I went to Ichigyu near Seoul Station.
Where is Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch?
Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is in the basement of the LG Seoul Station Building, and I heard it's already quite a well-known spot among people who work at LG.

What weekday lunch feels like for solo diners at Ichigyu
When I went during lunchtime, there were quite a lot of customers as expected, and more solo diners than I expected too. I was eating alone that day too! But to cut to the chase, it was a genuinely happy lunch. The place was a good size, comfortable — all good.

Ordering the gyukatsu double with butter, fried egg and ramune
What I ordered was the gyukatsu double. Ordering was done via tablet.

Since I was eating it properly, I added butter and a fried egg too. And even ramune :) When the table was fully set, the gyukatsu double really lived up to its name — such a generous portion. Just looking at it made me happy haha

I'd been feeling like I hadn't gotten enough protein lately, and this one meal felt like it properly made up for it haha. But this place isn't just about the big portions — the gyukatsu itself was genuinely delicious.
Crispy on the outside, moist and pink on the inside. Seriously so good haha

Gyukatsu grilled in Isigny butter
And the highlight of the day was the butter. Isigny butter is famous for being so rich and delicious that I thought it might go well with gyukatsu, so I added it — and I'm so glad I did. Though it turns out they give you one serving by default anyway 🤣🤣🤣
When you place Isigny butter on the brazier, it melts and sizzles, and then a slice of gyukatsu gets placed right on top. Lightly searing the gyukatsu in the butter on both sides and eating it... oh, this is genuinely delicious.
The gyukatsu alone is already plenty tasty, but adding the deep richness of Isigny butter brings the flavor to a whole new level. Amazing.

Why grilling one slice at a time is the best part
Just putting a piece of gyukatsu on rice is already delicious enough, but the real charm of gyukatsu is grilling it slice by slice on the little brazier in front of you. Placing one slice at a time, searing it front and back, and eating it right when it's hot — that's genuinely delicious.

Inside the crispy batter, the meat is soft, and since it's freshly grilled, it's warm too. Eating one bite of rice with one piece of gyukatsu, I briefly felt like I was in Japan. Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch really seems to know how to do gyukatsu right.
The meat itself really seems like the real deal 🥰🥰🥰
Wasabi and salt: the best way to eat Ichigyu gyukatsu
Piled a good bit of wasabi on top and ate it happily 🥰🥰

Dipped it in salt too, generously 🥰🥰

Eating gyukatsu lightly seared in hot butter together with rice was seriously amazing.

Are the fried egg and ramune worth adding?
I also added a fried egg, and eating it together with rice was a nice thing to have between bites of gyukatsu too. And for the drink, ramune. Since I was already eating a menu with such a strong Japanese feel, having ramune too made the mood even better haha

Is Ichigyu a good solo lunch spot near Seoul Station?
Taking a sip of cold soda, then putting another slice of gyukatsu on the brazier. Even eating alone, it never felt awkward at all — if anything, grilling each piece at my own pace was great. Looking around, there were plenty of other solo diners too, so this could be a good option for anyone looking for a solo dining spot near Seoul Station.
And the staff were genuinely kind too. Eating delicious food with kind service on top just makes everything feel even better, and that's exactly how this day was.
I've been obsessed with katsu lately and eating it all over the place, but I think I'll keep thinking about Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch. A lunch where I got a proper protein boost from the generous gyukatsu double, grilling each slice sizzling in Isigny butter alongside warm rice. It was a solo meal, but genuinely such a happy lunch. :)
