Ulsan milmyeon restaurant, anniversary lunch with a baby: Samsam
In short
Samsam Milmyeon Main Branch is a milmyeon (cold wheat noodle) restaurant in Dal-dong, Nam-gu, Ulsan, near the Ulsan Bus Terminal. On an anniversary trip to Ulsan, the writer stopped in for lunch with a baby and ordered mul-milmyeon (cold noodles in broth), a double portion of bibim-milmyeon (spicy mixed noodles) and dumplings, and the staff brought over a baby chair and a bowl for cooling food without being asked. The dumplings kept them full until dinner, making Samsam Milmyeon an easy lunch stop for travelling families.

Why milmyeon for an anniversary trip lunch in Ulsan?
On our anniversary trip to Ulsan, we needed a lunch that worked with a baby in tow — something not too hot and quick to eat, so milmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) it was. There was a delivery motorcycle parked outside, which made my heart race a little — is this really the good place?
It's near the terminal, but surrounded by villa neighborhoods with basically no parking, so I figured we'd have to park at the department store and walk over. Turns out they support parking at a nearby lot — thank you, thank you! The owner really understands what customers worry about.
When we mentioned we had a baby with us, they brought out a baby chair right away.

Inside Samsam Milmyeon: size, seating and the menu
Samsam Milmyeon Main Branch is quite spacious, so even during a busy lunch rush you probably won't wait long. The raised, shoes-off seating area is all floor-free seating with proper chairs, so no worries even if your back isn't great.
True to a classic specialty restaurant, the menu is super simple: mul-milmyeon (regular/double), bibim-milmyeon (regular/double), extra noodles, and dumplings.

You order at the kiosk — very much the vibe of a specialty shop. The double portion is only ₩1,000 more than regular, so if you're a big eater, might as well go double from the start.

There are aprons at the counter, but even though we were already seated and hadn't asked, staff brought one over anyway! Not just kind but thoughtful too. We ordered mul-milmyeon, a double portion of bibim-milmyeon, and one order of dumplings.

Beef bone broth, pickled radish and radish salad
While we waited, the pickled radish, radish salad, and beef bone broth arrived first.

The peppery aroma mixed nicely with the beefy smell, and one sip warmed my whole body — felt like a proper tonic.

Eight dumplings and a cooling bowl for the baby
The dumplings arrived first — eight of them, steamed beautifully — and staff also brought a bowl for cooling some down for the baby to try. So thoughtful, I was touched over and over.
With almost no delay, the mul-milmyeon came out next. Little ice flakes floating on top, and the seasoning looked rich — I couldn't wait.

My husband's pick: bibim-milmyeon, double portion. Loaded with cucumber — anyone watching their blood sugar should eat the egg and cucumber first.

I always eat the egg first before noodles like this — protects the stomach lining! And it doubles as blood sugar management, so win-win.

How is the mul-milmyeon and the boiled pork?
Mixed everything up nicely — first bite has to be with the boiled pork! The pork was so tender even a toothless baby could easily eat it. The mul-milmyeon was fresh and tangy. The seasoning looks rich but isn't heavy at all. I'm normally a bibim (mixed) person, but Samsam Milmyeon in Dal-dong's mul-milmyeon was so clean and refreshing, I was thoroughly satisfied.

Why the dumpling wrappers are so chewy
Time to try the dumplings. The skin looks a bit like potato dough, and sure enough, it was incredibly chewy, with plenty of meat filling for a hearty bite. When I told the owner the dumplings were really delicious, they said proudly that you won't find dumplings like these anywhere else.

Double bibim-milmyeon: a sesame oil finish
The double portion of bibim-milmyeon! Rather than spicy heat, the nutty, heavy flavor of sesame oil hits first. A flavor that keeps pulling you back.

Tried the radish salad — unlike store-bought versions, it's got Samsam Milmyeon's own spicy-tangy seasoning soaked right in. A good restaurant never skimps on even a side dish.

Is Samsam Milmyeon worth a visit with a baby?
Our baby only has front teeth so can't handle chewy textures well, so we just gave her the dumpling filling — and she ate so well, even after her baby food, she still put away two whole dumplings' worth.

We slurped everything down happily without even a moment to add vinegar or mustard, but they're there if you want to customize to your taste. Try the original flavor first — it's genuinely delicious as is.
And... the portions are big. Even a regular portion plus dumplings would probably fill most people up. We ate the noodles, and thanks to the dumplings I think, I was still full come dinnertime — only managed half a bowl of rice, haha.

Before you leave, don't forget to get your parking stamp!! Don't forget!!
