Gwangju Suwan pasta restaurant, carbonara set B with a kid: Bueokgan
In short
Bueokgan Suwan Branch is a pasta and wood-fired pizza restaurant in the Suwan district of Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju. On a weekend visit with a child, the writer ordered Couple Set B — garden salad, carbonara pasta, basil margherita pizza and two drinks — and the staff brought a full kids' tableware set, so the child finished the carbonara to the last bite, cream sauce on the chin. Alley parking and a lunch-peak wait are the only catches, and Bueokgan Suwan Branch is worth a return trip with kids.

We wanted delicious pasta with our kid on the weekend, so we headed to Bueokgan in Gwangju's Suwan district, known as one of the best Western-style restaurants in Gwangju.
Finding a place to eat out with a kid every weekend is a real task these days — it's surprisingly hard to find a restaurant that's kid-friendly but still satisfies adult tastes, haha. So once again we went back to a place our kid already loved: Bueokgan in Suwan district, Gwangju.

Inside Bueokgan Suwan Branch and how kiosk ordering works
The moment we stepped into Bueokgan Suwan Branch, the soft, warm wood-tone interior welcomed us. We took a table and ordered through the kiosk haha.

What comes in Couple Set B at Bueokgan Suwan Branch?
After some deliberation, we went with Couple Set B, which felt like a solid, full spread. Cost-wise too, the set was much more reasonable than ordering everything à la carte lol.
Couple Set B came with a garden salad, carbonara pasta, basil margherita pizza, and two drinks (batch brew coffee and single orange juice).

The kids' tableware set Bueokgan Suwan Branch brings out
As soon as we finished ordering, the staff brought out a dedicated tableware set for our kid, and I was touched the moment I saw it haha. A cute pink and ivory divided plate, along with a little cup, fork, and spoon, all neatly set up. As a parent, this kind of small thoughtfulness really matters a lot when deciding whether to come back lol.

Garden salad: the first course of the set
First came the garden salad. Crisp, fresh arugula and vegetables were topped with cheese scattered like snow, and the fresh scent of the dressing hit my nose right away! You could really taste the freshness of the vegetables — perfect as a palate cleanser before the meal.

Carbonara pasta the child finished to the last bite
And finally, today's main event: the carbonara pasta! A rich cream sauce base with a glossy egg yolk on top — you pop the yolk and mix it into the noodles, and the savory flavor just rushes up lol. The thick-cut bacon and mushrooms had a great bite too. Dipping the pizza crust into the thick cream sauce was an explosion of savoriness in every bite haha.

Our kid usually doesn't eat pasta well if it's too strong or has a heavy aroma, but the pasta at Bueokgan in Suwan district apparently hit the spot perfectly lol. Twirling the noodles neatly onto the fork and stuffing them in, cream sauce smeared all around the mouth, and just kept eating non-stop haha.
It had been a while since I'd seen our kid film such an enthusiastic pasta-eating show, so I really felt it was worth bringing them along. I silently cheered inside, thinking we'd finally found a Western-style restaurant in Gwangju that our kid actually loves too lol.

Basil margherita pizza and the two set drinks
The basil margherita pizza that came out next also exceeded expectations. Fresh out of the oven and still steaming, the fragrant basil pesto paired beautifully with the tangy sun-dried tomatoes! The crust was crispy yet chewy, loaded with mozzarella cheese that stretched with every pull — one bite and a light yet rich savoriness filled my mouth.
The savoriness of the cream pasta and the freshness of the basil pizza worked really well together as a combo lol. Dipping the pizza crust into the pasta sauce was also totally solid!
The single orange juice we ordered was refreshing for our kid to drink, and the iced batch brew coffee I had cleansed my palate with its clean coffee-bean aroma, cutting through any richness haha. One sip of that cold iced coffee and all the weekend fatigue just melted away. This visit to Bueokgan in Suwan district was, overall, a satisfying outing — great food, service, and atmosphere all around, in a Gwangju Western-style restaurant.

Parking and waits: what to know before visiting Bueokgan Suwan Branch
That said, there are a few things to keep in mind and minor downsides too lol. Given the nature of the alleys in Suwan district, alley parking can get pretty congested during weekend peak times.
Also, since it's a popular spot, there can be a bit of a wait during lunch peak hours, so I'd recommend arriving a little earlier than usual. But these minor downsides are easily outweighed by how comfortable and delicious a meal you can enjoy here with your kid — it's a Gwangju Western-style restaurant I definitely plan to revisit haha.
