Bundang café with kids: ₩2,500 butter rice cake at Butter & Shelter

One weekend afternoon, walking out after lunch, I started craving something sweet. The kids chimed in too — "let's grab dessert!" — so we turned toward Jeongja-dong. I'd heard there was a Bundang café getting talked about for its butter rice cake, and that's how we ended up at Butter & Shelter Bundang Jeongja :)

There was separate terrace seating right beside the store. It was hot that day so we went straight inside, but when the weather cools down, sitting out there sounded really nice.

Step inside and the vibe shifts again. Wood-toned tables paired with soft lighting made for a comfortable spot to sit.

On the wall was a big seasonal menu poster, with the coconut & mango line and the Dubai chewy cookie prominently displayed. When you're stuck deciding what to order, a poster like that actually helps a lot.

The ₩2,500 butter rice cake the kids took after one bite

This is one of the cheapest items in the store, and yet it's the one I was left wanting more of. Not because the taste disappointed — because after one bite my kid grabbed the rest, haha. The moment you bite in, you get that chewy texture, and even though it's rice cake, the butter flavor comes through right alongside it. The round shape also makes it easy to hand to a kid. The menu description said it uses New Zealand butter, and after one bite I understood exactly where that nutty richness was coming from. If you're looking for the Bundang café butter rice cake, you wouldn't be disappointed even if this were the only thing you came for. But if you're going with kids, I'd recommend ordering one per person — we actually ordered 5, and I barely got to eat any... hahaha.

The Dubai chewy cookie, discounted to ₩2,900

It's normally ₩4,200, but on the day we visited it was on sale for ₩2,900. It's a cookie with chewy marshmallow and pistachio kadayif, and true to its name, it really was chewy.

This is the texture I'd tried all over the place back when it was trending everywhere, but this version had the marshmallow stretching while the kadayif crunched through in between, giving it almost a two-layer texture. It also came individually wrapped, which made it easy to take home.

Three butter sand flavors: which order to eat them in

Butter & Shelter Bundang Jeongja's signature menu item is the original butter sand (₩3,200). We ordered all three flavors at once because I figured if we only tried one, we wouldn't notice the differences... hahaha.

If it's your first visit, I'd recommend starting with the original. Once you lock in that basic butter flavor first, moving on to crème brûlée and then chocolate makes the differences really clear.

The chocolate one has a dark chocolate coating on top, making it the richest of the three — and it was the one the kids, who love sweets, reached for first.

How the americano tasted

Since the desserts overall lean heavily toward rich butter flavor, an americano felt like it cleaned the palate better than a sweet drink would have.

They also had a butter Schümli (₩6,500) topped with butter cream, but since we'd already ordered so many desserts that day, I'll save that one for the next visit :)
