Hannam-dong sashimi restaurant date for two, ₩88,000: TATSU SUSAN

In short

TATSU SUSAN is an aged-sashimi restaurant on Daesagwan-ro 31-gil in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Two of us booked a Sunday table at 6:30pm and ordered Wando large halibut sashimi for ₩60,000, fresh clam kalguksu (noodle soup) for ₩20,000 and soju for ₩8,000, spending ₩88,000 in total. The halibut arrived in thick slices and the room stayed quiet, so TATSU SUSAN suits anyone looking for an anniversary dinner or date spot in Hannam-dong.

Main photo of TATSU SUSAN, a sashimi restaurant in Hannam-dong

I'd been looking for a sashimi restaurant in Hannam-dong and TATSU SUSAN kept popping up for its aged sashimi (sukseonghoe), so I finally went ★·.·´¯`·.·★ Booked a table with my boyfriend for Sunday evening at 6:30. Bottom line up front: it's a great quiet date spot and the fish is cut so thick the price actually makes sense.

It works fine as a casual drinking spot too, like a Hannam-dong izakaya, but the vibe is calmer than most sashimi restaurants around here. Sharing mostly practical info for anyone hunting for an anniversary spot ꒰ᐢ. .ᐢ꒱₊˚⊹

Where TATSU SUSAN is and how to find it

TATSU SUSAN is on the 2nd floor of 21 Daesagwan-ro 31-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. The 1st floor is a GS25 convenience store, so it's not hard to find.

Turn into the alley on the left side of the convenience store and you'll find an entrance with a fish tank and a sign — follow the stairs up to the 2nd floor.

Inside TATSU SUSAN: atmosphere and seating

The first thing you see walking into TATSU SUSAN is the long bar seating running down the middle.

It's an open kitchen, so you can watch the chef slicing sashimi right in front of you, and with the wood-toned walls and low lighting the whole place felt quiet and calm.

You'd expect a sashimi restaurant to be loud, but this one's easy to have a conversation in.

We sat at a round window table — the wood window frame looked out over a Hannam-dong alley, and it was a perfect spot for two.

There's also separate bar-style seating by the window ᰔᩚ♡ᰔᩚ and if you're coming with someone important, a private room seems like a nice option too.

The whole place felt clean and well kept. There's a restroom inside with a door-lock code — check the sign next to the entrance for it.

What's on the TATSU SUSAN menu

The menu says seasonal seafood is delivered fresh every dawn from the clean waters of the East, South, and West Seas, then prepped and aged the same day. There's even a page with a map showing which seafood comes from which region.

The menu book is genuinely thick — aged sashimi, seasonal seafood, dish of the month, soups, grilled dishes, rice dishes, plus sake, whiskey, and wine.

※ Note: the menu board at the 1st-floor entrance and the table menu differ slightly in items and prices.

  • Recommended set courses
  • À la carte aged sashimi / additional sashimi orders
  • Seasonal seafood à la carte
  • Today's recommended fish (changes daily, based on visit date)
  • Seasonal dish of the month / dish of the month / meal of the month
  • Grilled / fried / soups & hot pots / steamed & braised dishes
  • Rice dishes / desserts

※ Any menu item can be upgraded to a full set course for an extra ₩20,000.

Drinks list at TATSU SUSAN

The drink selection is huge too — soju and traditional liquor to sake, whiskey, highballs, and wine. It's an unusually wide lineup for a sashimi restaurant, so there's something for every taste ᰔᩚ♡ᰔᩚ

  • Soju / regional liquors / beer / makgeolli & bokbunja wine / soft drinks
  • Sake 720ml, sake 300ml
  • Japanese shochu (300ml / by the glass)
  • Whiskey (bottle / by the glass), highballs
  • Champagne / white wine

Wine also comes as a pairing set. If you're thinking champagne or white wine, the set is a better deal than ordering by the glass.

Tasting the Wando halibut sashimi and clam kalguksu

For two, we ordered Wando large halibut sashimi ₩60,000, fresh clam kalguksu ₩20,000, and soju ₩8,000 — ₩88,000 total for two on a date.

Once you sit down, the banchan (side dishes) come out first — seaweed salad and potato salad, two dishes.

★ Wando large halibut sashimi, ₩60,000 ★

This was the best dish. The halibut came sliced way thicker than I expected — a single piece had real weight to it, so you could actually chew and feel it. Plated generously over shredded radish with lime, fresh wasabi, pickled ginger, and edible flowers — you could tell they put thought into the presentation. Honestly, ₩60,000 for halibut alone isn't cheap, but between the thickness and the texture, I felt it earned its price.

★ Fresh clam kalguksu, ₩20,000 ★

Plenty of clams in a clear broth, topped with red chili and green onion for a clean-looking soup. Alternating a bite of sashimi with a spoonful of broth was a great combo ꙳⸌♡⸍꙳

Final verdict on TATSU SUSAN in Hannam-dong

Rating: ★★★★★ 5/5. The halibut sashimi was thick, the atmosphere was quiet and clean, and it was a perfect date spot.

It's on the pricier side, but between the thickness of the fish, the plating, and the staff's service, I felt it earned its price. This is a great place to book for an anniversary with someone important — I'd go back! ꒰ᐢ. .ᐢ꒱₊˚⊹♡
