A Gimpo rice-field-view café on the way to Ganghwa
The weather was so lovely that my friend and I went, “Shall we go somewhere?” and headed out for a drive. Our destination was Nillai Gimpo Branch, a place I’d had my eye on for ages!
It sits at the edge of Gimpo, right on the way over to Ganghwa, so it was absolutely perfect for a drive. If you’re planning a Ganghwa driving route, it’s such a great place to stop by. From the entrance, the beautifully tended green lawn and blue sky were just so pretty. A full-on autumn sky! The cooler weather made Nillai even more charming—I wondered where that scorching summer had gone.

We spent ages taking photos at the entrance photo spot, where Nillai’s trademark cute duck-character mural really stands out, before finally heading inside.

Honestly, this place is already well known by word of mouth for its views, photo opportunities, brunch, desserts, and coffee.

Rice-field views, wood interiors, and even a pool
Once you step inside, the owner’s flair for interiors catches your eye right away. The warm wood feel is filled with stylish furniture; every table and sofa is beautiful, and you can take in the rice-field view to your heart’s content. A total feast for the eyes!!

And there was one more charming thing: a pool!!! Even just looking at it, without dipping in a toe, felt refreshing.
Everything looked pretty in photos and just as pretty in real life—every single detail. After looking around to our hearts’ content and taking pictures, it was time to order, right??

Ordering mango crunch cake, coffee, and bread
We ordered the mango crunch cake, an iced Americano, a mocha bun, and a croissant. Time to order at the kiosk!

When our tray arrived, I was so surprised—the items were all so pretty and so generously sized! The presentation really showed the owner’s generosity.
Mango cake with a crackable chocolate coating
The mango crunch cake was what I was looking forward to most! Even though it’s pretty, the fun is in smashing it right open before eating it.

Crack through the chocolate coating around the outside and you find sweet, tangy mango filling and soft cream inside. The mango filling and smooth cream beneath that chocolate shell were so delicious. We definitely got our sugar boost.

The iced Americano we had alongside it had a bold yet clean bean aroma, making it a fantastic match for the sweet cake. The croissant, with its savory flavor as if freshly baked, was amazingly crisp outside and pleasantly chewy as it pulled apart. And the mocha bun, with its gentle coffee scent, was so moist and soft inside that I couldn’t help but exclaim after one bite.

The view was so beautiful, and the brunch, desserts, and drinks all surpassed our expectations. My friend and I kept saying, “We found such a good place!”—I can’t even count how many times.

If you’re planning a drive around Ganghwa Island or Gimpo, don’t hesitate—be sure to stop by at least once!
