Namyangju café for Dutch and Irish coffee: Waltz and Dr. Mahn

While driving around Namyangju, I finally visited Waltz and Dr. Mahn, the large Bukhangang River café I’d wanted to go to for ages. It is famous on Instagram for its luxurious atmosphere and wide-open river view 🍃, so my expectations were very high—and Waltz and Dr. Mahn went beyond them.

Like many large cafés in Namyangju, Waltz and Dr. Mahn has plenty of parking! Even before going inside, the Bukhangang River view from the parking lot was already raising my satisfaction level.

Even the spaces around the café are so pretty before you properly step inside! They also hold a Friday music concert at 8 PM on the last Friday of every month. I loved that calm classical music was playing while I was there, so now I’m curious about the concert too! The outdoor terrace at Waltz and Dr. Mahn is gorgeous as well—I need to come back in autumn.

This is the spot that is most famous on Instagram, right? I checked just in case, but of course the prime seat was occupied, haha. Such a shame, so I only captured it in photos. Still, the classic atmosphere inside Waltz and Dr. Mahn is so beautiful that I think every seat would have a lovely mood. This seat is great too, haha. Luckily, one window seat was left, so I got a seat with the Bukhangang River view right in front of me!

A café and restaurant with course meals

Waltz and Dr. Mahn is a large café in Namyangju that also operates as a restaurant. You can enjoy hand-drip coffee as well as course meals. It was nice that the meal items are sold individually too. I think it would be lovely to visit for an anniversary and have a course meal.

Coffee at Waltz and Dr. Mahn is on the pricier side. There are countless hand-drip coffees too! They also had a wide range of teas. I considered asking for a hand-drip recommendation, but ordered an iced Dutch coffee and an Irish coffee with whiskey instead.

As you relax with that wide-open Bukhangang River view, a staff member first comes over to pour water for you. The view was so nice that I kept taking photos!

They told me beforehand that the waffle would take a while to heat up, so the coffee came first.

Rich and full-bodied Dutch coffee

The Dutch coffee definitely felt a little richer and fuller-bodied than regular coffee. It had the deep aroma and intense flavor characteristic of Dutch coffee, with a distinct bitterness. But rather than tasting stale or harshly bitter, it was a style where the coffee aroma came through strongly, so I think it would suit anyone who likes bold coffee. They also prepared a pretty little serving of syrup separately, so you could add it to taste.

Irish coffee with a subtle whiskey aroma

I also ordered a hot Irish coffee. It is coffee with whiskey, topped with soft, sweet cream, so the first sip brings that sweet, creamy flavor. The more you drink, the more you notice whiskey’s distinctive aroma and slightly bitter taste. It starts sweet and smooth, then the whiskey gradually makes its presence felt—that is what makes this drink so appealing!

The waffle I’d been waiting and waiting for finally arrived. So pretty, right?

At ₩25,000, I initially thought the waffle was a little expensive, but once it arrived, the quality made the price understandable to some extent, haha.

It came generously topped with all kinds of fruit, including banana, Shine Muscat grapes, blueberries, and grapefruit, plus two scoops of yogurt gelato and whipped cream.

Above all, the waffle was really delicious!

It arrived warm, lightly crisp on the outside and moist inside—the best of both worlds. It was thick enough that sharing it with my boyfriend left us full. Personally, it felt a little like a Hong Kong-style waffle as I ate it, but its nutty, warm, crisp waffle charm came through beautifully.

Waltz and Dr. Mahn is a large café around Dumulmeori in Namyangju with antique, classic interiors that were fun to look around. Next time, I definitely have to sit in that spot.

After enjoying delicious coffee and dessert in such a pleasant place, I came out to find quite a few people enjoying the terrace too. Now that the weather is getting cooler, I highly recommend the terrace at Waltz and Dr. Mahn!

A quiet Bukhangang River café for special occasions

The atmosphere and interior were far more impressive in person than in the photos, and the Bukhangang River view outside the window was wonderful too. It is satisfying enough for a coffee-only visit, but its overall luxurious, distinctive atmosphere made me think it would be a really lovely place to visit for an anniversary and enjoy a course meal as well! ✨ It is great for a date or special day, and if you are looking for a quiet, calm large café in Namyangju rather than a hectic, noisy one, I absolutely recommend visiting Waltz and Dr. Mahn at least once.
