Gongdeok omakase dinner course, 180,000 won for 2 hours: Jeulgeoun
In short
Jeulgeoun Maeumeuro (즐거운 마음으로) is a sushi and sashimi omakase restaurant on Baekbeom-ro 24-gil near Gongdeok Station in Mapo, Seoul. The weekday dinner sushi omakase costs 180,000 won per person, and at the counter with my mother it ran about 2 hours, from a kongguksu (chilled soybean noodle soup) appetizer through ankimo flounder, a geumtae (golden eye snapper) rice bowl, eel sushi and melon kyoku. The course was packed tightly enough to leave us completely full, making Jeulgeoun Maeumeuro a satisfying choice for treating family.

What kind of omakase restaurant is Jeulgeoun Maeumeuro in Gongdeok?
Jeulgeoun Maeumeuro is a Seoul omakase spot right near my place by Gongdeok Station. I went with my mom, who's been babysitting my babies all through the school break — long overdue! It turned out to be a newly popular, seriously upscale place. I'd booked ahead through Catch Table for a weekday dinner. Reservations get cancelled if you're 15 minutes late, so call ahead if you're running behind!
This Gongdeok sushi omakase place I'm recommending is baby-friendly and dog-friendly, and there's an inner room too if you want to inquire about booking it. They have both sashimi and sushi omakase menus — we went with sushi!

We arrived right on time. My mom had no idea where we were going and just trotted along behind me, but once she realized it was sushi she got excited +_+ The kind-faced owner greeted us and mom's mood shot up even more!

Dinner course opener: kongguksu appetizer and ankimo flounder
Settled at the counter, we dug into Jeulgeoun's dinner sushi omakase. First up was kongguksu (chilled soybean noodle soup), served as a small appetizer — apparently it's been extra tasty lately. Peas, pine nuts, and Korean melon went into it. Perfect little palate-opener, I think. We cleared it the second it landed. Haha.

Mom ordered a highball — ₩14,000! It comes in two sizes, so order however you like. The second course was a platter of flounder, horse mackerel, and more. Especially the flounder wrapped with ankimo (monkfish liver) — the umami was off the charts! It felt truly luxurious. Mom was completely satisfied too!

Next came herring rolled up with pickled ginger tucked inside, which cut through the richness and kept it from tasting oily or fishy at all — such a pleasant bite. This is genuinely a Gongdeok sushi omakase place you have to visit.

Grilled sea bass with tama-miso and tender octopus
Grilled sea bass on a miso-based sauce! They laid the fish over tama-miso, and wow, it was so good. Creamy yet savory in this really appealing way haha. The sashimi is fresh, sure, but every single course here is so well put together that you can't wait for what's next.

The octopus.... thumbs up. I always thought of octopus as chewy, but here I wondered if octopus could really be this tender >< The soft texture paired perfectly with the soy-based seasoning.

The 180,000-won sushi part: what 2 hours at the counter brings
Chawanmushi and suimono packed with clam flavor — with these, the earlier cooked dishes wrap up and the sushi begins. For ₩180,000 per person, over 2 hours we got a tightly packed lineup of dishes and sushi, and I was completely satisfied. Jeulgeoun Maeumeuro, a Seoul omakase spot — highly recommend!
Sea bass and cuttlefish sushi drizzled with yuzu-like citrus juice. As seasonal fish sushi kept coming out one after another, mom was thrilled. Haha. Just like the restaurant's name suggests, I really did treat my mom with a joyful heart and had a wonderful time. That cuttlefish sushi was so fragrant and tender — total game-changer.

Sweet shrimp and uni-topped rolls, loaded generously with sea urchin :) The uni itself was high quality — no fishy smell, plump texture, no bitterness, just a lovely sweetness. Drool. They kept wiping down our tableware in between and shaped the sushi with just the right rice density, and told us to just say the word if we wanted more or less wasabi or rice. Nice touch!
Marinated tuna and fatty tuna belly!! We could adjust the wasabi and soy sauce to our own taste. So soft it basically melted the second it hit our mouths — magical tuna sushi, seriously. Confirmed: a top Seoul omakase spot b

A fresh round of miso soup came out to reset our palates from the richness mid-sushi :) They kept refilling it, and by then we were already about to burst. Usually with omakase I don't feel that full, but Jeulgeoun really packs you full — I'm grateful for that.

By the time the horse mackerel sushi above came out, we finally had a moment to look around. Ha. Up until then we'd been too busy eating to even glance sideways — mom and I barely talked, just ate happily. Lol.
Aburi sushi and the geumtae (golden eye snapper) rice bowl
Amberjack and grunt fish, lightly seared aburi-style — personally, I love that charred aroma :) It makes everything taste even nuttier, somehow.

Wow, this was another of the truly delicious courses. A geumtae (golden eye snapper) rice bowl topped with beautifully grilled, golden-brown fish. Underneath was rice with soy sauce, sweet and satisfying. Haha. They served it with Japanese seaweed to wrap it in, which was basically heavenly...

Finishing with eel sushi and melon kyoku
With eel sushi as the finale, our sushi omakase at Jeulgeoun Maeumeuro in Gongdeok, a great Seoul omakase spot, came to an end haha. Oh, though there were still two desserts left. By this point we were clutching our bellies haha, still gamely shoveling it in :) Truly a Gongdeok sushi omakase place that leaves you stuffed and satisfied.

A melon-flavored kyoku. Sweet and fluffy — really delicious. And to finish, white melon was served, and that was it. Haha. Mom and I spent two hours in heaven.
Ending on fruit made for such a happy wrap-up. Getting to enjoy delicious food and chat away with beloved family and friends here made me truly happy. This is Jeulgeoun Maeumeuro, my recommended Gongdeok sushi omakase spot!
