Munhwa Bakery, an Ikseon-dong bakery, is a takeout-only spot on Donhwamun-ro. I parked near Anguk Station and stopped in while walking around the area. The weather's been so nice lately that staying home on weekends feels like such a waste. My toddler needs to burn off energy too so she'll sleep well at night — there's really no staying in, haha.

There was a sudden shower right as I was leaving home and I panicked a little, but luckily it was just a passing shower — by the time we got out for our downtown Seoul date, there wasn't a drop of rain. What a relief, because rain plus a baby would have been rough. Total lifesaver, lol.

We walked around Anguk Station, wandered a bit, and stopped by an Ikseon-dong bakery I'd been wanting to visit — Munhwa Bakery. I'd wanted to come here for a while and finally made it happen!

Takeout only, and 2 parties at a time in the weekend queue

Munhwa Bakery in Ikseon-dong is takeout only — no eating in, and they don't even sell drinks. It's purely about baking and selling bread, a place that's serious about its bread. The shop is small, so there's a sign asking only 2 parties to enter at a time. There was a queue when I went on the weekend, so I quietly got in line and waited to get in.

Garlic bread and coffee bread: the must-buys at Munhwa Bakery

Munhwa Bakery had a lot of delicious-looking bread, and since everyone seemed to be grabbing the garlic bread as a must-buy, I quickly picked one up too. Baked fresh that day, it looked really good. The garlic bread here is super moist, with garlic sauce soaked all the way through — impossible not to reach for.

There was also coffee bread, but it felt like something I'd have to eat alone at home since the portion was big, so I passed on it. Sounds like it'd be great to enjoy with a cup of coffee in the morning though.

Which breads sell out after weekend lunchtime?

Going after weekend lunchtime, there were items on the menu board that were already gone. Sweet potato bread and white bean paste bread seemed sold out, but there was still plenty of variety — whole loaves like rice chestnut bread, rice cheese bread, onion bagels, walnut bread, and more.

There was also injeolmi (sweet rice cake) bread, which looked interesting — a lot of people were buying it. I haven't tried it myself so I'm curious! I like plain bread, so I mostly picked things without cream filling.

Once you're inside Munhwa Bakery in Ikseon-dong, the bread is laid out in a single row so you can see everything at a glance. You don't pick it up yourself — you tell the staff at the register which bread you want, and they pack it up for you.

Apparently there's a Naver receipt review event where writing a photo review gets you a free salt bread from Munhwa Bakery. I was too busy with the baby that day and rushed out without doing a receipt review. Now I'm curious what their salt bread tastes like!

Honest verdict on the garlic baguette, walnut and mugwort rice cake bread

Of everything I bought at Munhwa Bakery, the garlic baguette was personally my favorite — there's clearly a reason everyone buys it. The walnut bread I got was also plain, sweet, and delicious, while the mugwort rice cake bread was a bit of a love-it-or-hate-it flavor.
