Paju Heyri large café with lemon doughnut and lemon tea: Heuksadang

Hi, I'm Jay (▰╹◡╹▰) I dropped by Heuksadang while on a date in Heyri Village! It keeps popping up on social media as a doughnut hotspot, so I was curious and finally got to go. I came away with a sugar rush and a full stomach thanks to these massive, over-the-top-looking handmade doughnuts! Here's my review of Heuksadang, a large café in Paju.

Where is Heuksadang in Paju, and what are its hours and parking?

Heuksadang is a large café in Paju located at 37-10 Heyrimaeul-gil, Tanhyeon-myeon, Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do. Hours are Mon–Fri 11:00–19:30 and Sat–Sun 10:00–21:00, and there's both a parking lot and separate men's/women's restrooms.

What Heuksadang looks like from outside in Heyri Village

The Heuksadang building has floor-to-ceiling windows on both the 1st and 2nd floors, so it feels open and never stuffy, and the yellow lighting wraps the whole space in a warm glow. It's a modern, clean-looking café that's perfect for a date!

There are outdoor tables on the 1st floor, and I bet it's lovely to sit there in the cool evening air haha.

The Heuksadang logo on the outer wall stands out, and I wondered why there's a snake on it — turns out the name Heuksadang means "even a black snake becomes gentle with sweetness"!

I also liked that they have a wide menu — handmade doughnuts, coffee, other drinks, and snow-flake bingsu (shaved ice dessert).

There's an open lot right next to the café, so parking was easy.

Inside Heuksadang: can you get a seat on a Saturday afternoon?

The 2nd floor at Heuksadang wasn't full even at 3pm on a Saturday, so we could sit comfortably. The 1st floor, right in front of the counter, doesn't have tables — the doughnut display case is front and center there.

Right when you walk in, there's a counter straight ahead, and true to its reputation as a doughnut spot, the display case was packed with all kinds of doughnuts.

The handmade doughnuts are huge and all looked so delicious that I spent ages deciding what to pick..!

The high ceilings make the space feel even bigger, and since the 1st floor is right by the counter, they seem to have skipped tables there!

Thanks to that, it never felt too crowded even during busy hours.

Heuksadang is a large café that allows dogs, and there's a separate dog-friendly zone, which keeps things hygienic and should mean less friction as long as everyone keeps basic manners!

On the 2nd floor, the middle section is open, so the space is split into two sides.

If the middle were closed off too, they could fit more tables, but it'd probably feel more cramped, right? We visited around 3pm on a Saturday and it wasn't full, so I don't think you need to worry about weekend visits either.

I liked that there's a self-service bar on both the 1st and 2nd floors. The restrooms are separated into men's and women's inside the café, so they're easy to use.

How do the crème brûlée doughnut, lemon doughnut and lemon tea taste?

At Heuksadang I ordered an americano (₩6,000), lemon tea (₩6,500), crème brûlée doughnut (₩5,000), and lemon doughnut (₩5,300) — ₩22,800 total. Neither doughnut was greasy, so even I, who doesn't usually eat doughnuts, had no trouble finishing them.

The americano had low acidity and a clean taste,

and the lemon tea had a great balance of tart and sweet without being too sugary.

I picked the crème brûlée since it seemed like the most classic option, and it really was delicious.

The outside has a crackly caramelized coating, while the inside is filled with cream, giving it a soft, fluffy feel. Even though it's a doughnut packed with custard cream, it wasn't greasy, which I loved.

The lemon doughnut doesn't have a strong lemon scent, so it seems like the kind of flavor most people would like.

The dough is chewy, with a gentle hint of lemon and sweet cream — perfect for dessert. I usually don't eat many doughnuts because they're greasy, but neither of these was, and I could easily eat two or three on my own!!

Is Heuksadang worth a stop in Heyri Village?
