Dangsan-dong bakery café with Chuseok gift sets: BYWAY BAKERS
In short
BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch is a company-run bakery café tucked into a Dangsan-ro 27-gil alley in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, a 2-minute walk from Yeongdeungpogu Office Station Exit 1. Visited just after lunch on a weekday, the seasonal fig and cream cheese wakppu salt bread came with an Americano and a latte, and the crust shattered into crisp shards over a salty-sweet filling. With window seats for one, a 6-person meeting room and a group table for 10, BYWAY BAKERS suits both dates and meetings, and Chuseok gift set pre-orders were running during the visit.

A Dangsan-dong bakery must-try: wakppu salt bread

Last week I had lunch near Yeongdeungpo-gu Office and had a bit of time to spare, so I dropped into a café :) Wakppu salt bread has been blowing up on SNS lately, and honestly I pretend not to care about desserts but somehow end up trying every trend anyway.
I visited wanting to try the wakppu salt bread, but the atmosphere was so nice I thought — this is exactly the kind of Dangsan-dong bakery you'd want for a date :)

Two minutes from Yeongdeungpogu Office Station: inside the café and its seats
BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch sits just inside the alley about 2 minutes on foot from Exit 1 of Yeongdeungpogu-cheong Station, so it's really easy to get to! It turns out this is actually the flagship, company-run store — the one where you can experience the widest range of BYWAY BAKERS menu items.
Stepping inside, the space felt compact but really well laid out and comfortable. There were window seats for one where you could sip coffee while looking outside, a 6-person meeting room good for gatherings or meetings, and even a group table that could seat 10 or more.
We came during a weekday lunch hour, so it wasn't crowded at all — nice and quiet, with that warm bread smell drifting around while we relaxed over coffee and chatted :)

How many items are on the menu? Around 60 breads and baked goods
BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch has a lineup of roughly 60 kinds of baked goods and bakery items, including its signature financiers, egg tarts, and salt bread. Everything is apparently baked fresh in-store every morning with fresh ingredients, and it all looked so tempting that the two of us bread-lovers had a happy dilemma over what to pick!
The variety was so wide it looked like it could work just as well as a light dessert snack or as a full meal substitute :) We ordered an Americano and a latte for coffee. If we hadn't already had lunch, I'd have loaded up on bread, but we were full, so I just picked the one wakppu salt bread I'd seen on SNS! Next time I'm coming on an empty stomach!

Fig cream cheese wakppu salt bread: what it tastes like when you crack it open
Honestly, neither my friend nor I had ever tried the trendy wakppu (crush-open bread) before, being a couple of old fogeys, so we kept pushing the job of crushing it onto each other haha... In the end I smashed it myself, and the moment it cracked open with that crisp shatter, the thrill was incredible! Now I get why everyone's obsessed with wakppu — I felt a rush of dopamine.
But the fun aside, the taste was even more impressive. It's stuffed generously with sweet, fresh figs that are perfectly in season right now, plus deeply flavorful cream cheese, and the crisp texture of the salt bread combined perfectly with the salty-sweet, nutty flavor in every bite! This is the must-try menu item if you come to BYWAY in Yeongdeungpo!
The atmosphere was great and it's a flagship, company-run store, so I half-worried the coffee prices might be steep, but both the coffee and desserts were very reasonably priced — I fell for this place all over again.
Both the Americano and the latte had beans that were rich and nutty, and paired perfectly with the sweetness of the dessert!

Chuseok gift sets at BYWAY BAKERS: pre-order dates and pickup

BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch gave me a trendy dessert experience I'd never had before, along with a familiar flavor I'd want to come back for every day! I'm planning to visit again soon to clear out a few more kinds of baked goods :) Definitely add this to your Yeongdeungpo bakery-hopping course!
