Yeongdeungpo bakery for jambon bagel sandwich takeout: BYWAY BAKERS
In short
BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch is a large bakery café next to Dangsan Neighborhood Park, right by Exit 1 of Yeongdeungpogu Office Station in Seoul. On a weekday lunch visit, the takeout order was olive focaccia, salt bread, a jambon bagel, and the fig pistachio tart that joined the menu in September. The jambon bagel sandwich was the standout, with mild jambon, a chewy bagel, arugula, and pepper, and BYWAY BAKERS is as strong on savory meal breads as it is on desserts like the wakppu salt bread.

BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch — genuinely famous as THE bakery to hit near Yeongdeungpogu Office Station.
BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch

Happiness in a BYWAY. A little bit of happiness in daily life, a little bit of ease in the city. Next to Dangsan Park by Yeongdeungpogu Office, on a street lined with cute little shops, I visited the standout bakery of the neighborhood — BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch.

Today's a takeout review, but I took plenty of shots of the store too~
What bread does BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch bake?

First, the store's most famous line — the wakppu salt bread. Made with seasonal fruit, the colorful look catches your eye right away. Lately at dessert shops you see a lot of these 'wakppu' breads — the ones with that crunchy-crackly coating.

But I'm going with bread.

BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch is a famous spot for salt bread. It looks almost too pretty, like it was painted.

There are also so many kinds of bagels.
I visited at lunchtime, and office workers were scooping up the Shanghai butter tteok (rice cake) in bunches. Probably because it's easy to share, right...? Next to it, the Hong Kong pineapple bun is also pretty famous for its crisp-outside, salty-inside taste. Under the crunchy crumble crust is cold salted butter, and pineapple jam is served on the side.

Financiers are a top-selling item on Naver orders, and lots of gift boxes were going out. Chuseok (Korean thanksgiving) is coming up soon, so there were quite a variety of gift set options too!
Boxing up a takeout order at BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch

I picked the olive focaccia, salt bread, jambon bagel, and the new September item, the fig pistachio tart.

They gave me a buzzer for the bread cutting and packing. And after a bit of waiting—

—out came a thick bread bag. Even the bag was pretty.
This is the most exciting moment. Walking off with a bag full of bread you love~ yay~

They were showing off Chuseok gift sets with financiers, egg tarts, and pie manju. Getting one of these as a gift would be so exciting. Even grownups want something sweet for a change, not just bitter stuff, haha.
Inside BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch: seats and atmosphere

The store at BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch was seriously huge. Tables for 2 and 4, plus the meeting room you can see in the back, and window seats for one — that's already a lot of space — but there's also a group table on the side seating 10+. I was honestly a bit surprised by the scale at first glance.
Since it was a weekday lunch, there were lots of office workers in for tea, and it was so nice to see locals chatting over meals too. Overall, a really comfortable and pretty bakery spot near Yeongdeungpogu Office.

You can get water from the self-serve bar, and in one corner they were also selling some cute goods.

The store is decorated in orange and brown tones, so cute and pretty to look around too. It's a shame I couldn't take more photos since there were so many customers — I'm sure there were plenty of pretty things I missed.
Finding the BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch storefront

BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch is really, really close to Exit 1 of Yeongdeungpogu Office Station. Since the store is large, it's easy to spot even from far away.

At first I wondered what the Lee Young-ja reference was about. Is this a spot she's endorsed? I almost got convinced for a second, haha.
How do the jambon bagel and fig pistachio tart taste?

I ate the bread I brought home. The jambon bagel sandwich was amazing — the jambon wasn't too salty, the bagel was chewy, and the combo with arugula and pepper was spot on.
I don't know how they got the seasoning so perfectly balanced. I thought this place was all about dessert because of the wakppu salt bread, but the savory bread is no joke either.

Next up, the fig pistachio tart. It got a bit crushed on the way home while I was skipping along happily, but I did my best to fix it up. *It really looks prettier than this in person.
On top of a crisply baked tart shell, they piled soft, nutty pistachio cream and loads of fresh figs. It's a total taste of abundant autumn. The tart is big and packed with fig, so I got full off just one.
