Weekday morning cold brew at Yeongdeungpo bakery café BYWAY BAKERS

In short

BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch is a large bakery café in Dangsan-dong, Seoul, near Exit 1 of Yeongdeungpogu Office Station (Lines 2 and 5). On a weekday visit before lunch, the window seat came with a fig wakppu salt bread, a cold brew and a latte, and the cold brew at BYWAY BAKERS ranked among the best the writer has tasted. Come in the morning if you want a relaxed pick of the bread before the shelves empty.

How long is the walk from Yeongdeungpogu Office Station to BYWAY BAKERS?

BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch is a well-known Dangsan-dong bakery located right by Yeongdeungpogu Office Station, where Line 2 and Line 5 meet. Come out Exit 1 on the Line 2 side and you'll be there in no time. There's Dangsan Park nearby too, and it's close enough to Yeongdeungpo Station that you could easily pair a visit with Times Square, a CGV movie, or some window shopping in the area.

I'd always been curious about this place whenever I passed through Yeongdeungpo and saw the crowds, so this time I finally had a free weekday to stop by. Turns out I understood exactly why it was so busy! And I'd recommend a stroll through nearby Dangsan Park too haha.

Weekday morning at BYWAY BAKERS: seats and atmosphere

Since BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch gets busy in the afternoon and the bread can sell out, I made sure to go before lunch on a weekday haha. The weather's been so nice lately I couldn't just stay home — it was a clear, sunny day, so I hustled over.

Relaxed café interior before weekday lunch

Being early, things felt a bit more relaxed, but there were still quite a few people around. The café had a good variety of seating — group tables, window seats, and large tables for working.

Seating with group tables and window seats

There was a goods section off to one side that was fun to browse, and a large table up front that always had customers, so I couldn't get a photo of it — very fitting for a Yeongdeungpo bakery-hopping spot.

There's also a convenient self-service zone with Wi-Fi and ice water, plus a well-kept, separate indoor restroom.

Which wakppu salt bread flavors does BYWAY BAKERS bake?

BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch had wakppu (a squeeze-to-fill bread trend) salt bread in fig, Basque cheesecake, and fresh blueberry yogurt combinations, and I picked fig since it's in season. I actually found out about BYWAY BAKERS while searching for the best wakppu salt bread spot — the idea of salt bread joining the wakppu trend was too cute and intriguing not to try somewhere really good.

As famous as it is for salt bread, it's also known for cakes in Yeongdeungpo, and sure enough there were a lot of cakes ready for takeout — nice to see they also sell cute candles alongside them. Sandwiches seemed popular too, with office workers stopping in for a meal.

Shanghai butter tteok (rice cake), financiers, bagels, baguettes — this place was packed with every kind of dessert and bread imaginable!

This time I went for the wakppu salt bread, but next time I'm definitely trying the regular salt bread too.

They also do takeout, which makes it great for gifting desserts, and the drink menu was varied too, with signature cold brew ades and more. I went with what I've been into lately — a latte and a cold brew.

How the fig wakppu salt bread and cold brew tasted at the window seat

At BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch, I sat by the window where I could feel the weather and see outside while eating. The staff were kind too — even when I asked for what might've been an annoying favor, they sorted it out cheerfully!

The wakppu salt bread came out looking almost like a piece of fruit, topped with fig. Since it was my first time trying both wakppu and wakppu salt bread, I was pretty excited.

I don't usually go for cold brew, but for some reason I wanted it that day! It turned out to be one of the top-tier cold brews I've ever had haha.

And then, wakppu time! It felt a little awkward being my first time, but it was fun,,, so fun,,, the kind of fun you want to do again.

There's something stress-relieving about it, and it gave my friend and me something to talk about too, which made it more fun. The flavor was a combination of cool white chocolate and salt bread, plus fig and Basque cheesecake — impossible not to like, seriously so good.

I couldn't miss squeezing out that very last bit of wakppu, kept pressing it just for fun haha. Officially recognized as a wakppu salt bread must-visit — I'd definitely go back.
