Busan salad shop picnic takeout: Montreal top blade salad, PARENTS

PARENTS Coffee & Salad Jungang-dong Branch is a salad shop near Exit 14 of Jungang Station in Jung-gu, Busan, selling salads, poke, wrap sandwiches and burritos. On the way to a picnic at Chinsu Park, the pregnant writer picked up the new Montreal-seasoned top blade salad, a buldak (fiery spicy) chicken breast wrap and a crispy chicken wrap in paper packaging; portions and flavor were both satisfying, though the wraps had a little too much sauce. For a light but filling meal to go, PARENTS Coffee & Salad takeout is a good fit.

Weekend pork cutlet with high chairs, Busan Station: Dal and Sixpence

Gyeongyangsik Dal and Sixpence Main Branch is a Korean-style Western (gyeongyangsik) pork cutlet restaurant in Dong-gu, Busan, a 3-minute walk from Busan Station. The writer visited on a weekend evening with her baby and husband, ordering the regular pork cutlet and the double-size pork cutlet, and remembered the spacious dining room, the high chairs, a double portion too big to fit in one photo and a delicious sauce. For a hearty gyeongyangsik pork cutlet with a baby near Busan Station, Dal and Sixpence is a safe choice.

Level-3 spicy galbitang with extra brisket in Seomyeon: Gang Galbitang

Gang Galbitang Seomyeon (강갈비탕) is a galbitang (beef rib soup) and gukbap (rice soup) restaurant near Exit 11 of Seomyeon Station in Busan. After falling for it on an earlier visit, the writer went back and ordered the basic galbitang with extra brisket (+3,000 won) and the spicy galbitang at level 3, "very spicy." With beef that comes off the bone easily and a rich broth, Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is worth another visit for a hangover cure or a solo meal in Seomyeon.

Dalmaji-gil brunch restaurant with baby tableware: Bueokgan Haeundae

Bueokgan Haeundae Branch (부엌간 해운대점) is a European restaurant on the 2nd floor of a building near Dalmaji-gil in Haeundae, Busan, opened as a new branch after the original in Gijang. The writer came with a baby and ordered truffle mushroom cream gnocchi, an arugula prosciutto pizza and a grapefruit ade, and the high chair and separate baby tableware made feeding baby food easy. Bueokgan Haeundae Branch is a good pick for brunch with a little one, followed by a stroll along Dalmaji-gil.

Baby-friendly Gyeongju café with high chairs and yellow cosmos: Yard

Yard is a brunch café on the main road by Gyeongju World, near the Bomun Tourist Complex in Gyeongju, with a field of yellow cosmos right in front. The writer visited Yard with a baby in late September, sat on the first floor where high chairs are available, had a matcha latte, a dark chocolate and tiramisu cake, and took photos in the cosmos field, which was about 80% in bloom. Yard is a good pick for combining autumn flowers and teatime with a baby.

Friday-night izakaya in Yeonsan, Busan: pork-chive rolls at Samajama

Samajama Yeonsan Direct Branch is a yakitori skewer izakaya near Yeonsan Station in Yeonje, Busan. After a 30-minute wait on a Friday evening, the writer ordered the 3-4 person Hanpan Gui platter (6 skewers plus 3 small dishes) with Kirin draft beer, and received a free chicken skin skewer because the busy kitchen ran late. The pork belly and chive roll was the best skewer, and the writer rates Samajama Yeonsan Direct Branch a 100% return visit among Yeonsan skewer spots.

Haeundae Chinese restaurant with high chairs & ocean view: Bueokgan

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch (부엌간 차이니즈 마린시티점) is an ocean-view Chinese restaurant on the Marine City waterfront near Dongbaek Island in Haeundae, Busan, with inner private rooms and baby high chairs that suit family meals. Arriving with a husband and baby at 5 PM, right as the break time ended, the writer got an ocean-view window seat and ordered poached-egg pork belly ganjajang (10,000 won), thin-sliced beef brisket jjamppong (12,000 won) and a small black-vinegar pork loin tangsuyuk (28,000 won). The verdict: the poached-egg pork belly ganjajang was the best dish of the visit, while the jjamppong could have been a bit spicier with more smoky wok flavor.

Korean BBQ in Jeonpo, Busan: steamed egg & draft beer at Busitdol

Busitdol is a pork belly restaurant with an outdoor-tent vibe, tucked into an alley in Jeonpo-dong, Busanjin, Busan. After a weekend wait, the writer returned to Busitdol on a weekday and ordered 3 servings of old-style pork belly plus 1 extra, along with steamed egg, draft beer and self-cooked fried rice; the pork belly grilled on a cast-iron pot lid, the kimchi and the fried rice were all satisfying. Verdict: Busitdol is a Jeonpo-dong barbecue spot that even a couple picky about meat quality would 100% revisit.

Kid-friendly Korean BBQ in Seomyeon, Busan with baby chairs: Gilchon

Gilchon Sutbul Galbi Seomyeon Main Branch is a fresh and marinated pork galbi (pork rib) restaurant in Busan, a 2–3 minute walk from Seomyeon Station. On a visit with a baby, the order was 500g of fresh pork galbi for ₩29,500 plus a half-plate add-on, barley shrimp doenjang (soybean paste) stew, steamed egg and a 300cc draft beer, and Gilchon Sutbul Galbi's baby chairs made the meal easy. With a spacious dining room and group seating, Gilchon Sutbul Galbi is a dependable Seomyeon pork galbi spot for anything from family dinners to work get-togethers.

Kalguksu restaurant near Hongryong Falls, Yangsan: Eonyang Dak

Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch is a house-made noodle restaurant six minutes by car from Tongdosa Temple in Yangsan, Gyeongnam. On a rainy weekend at the tail end of summer, after a trip to Hongryong Falls, the writer had a 10,000-won bowl of chicken kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) made with half a chicken, plus chewy dumplings, and helped herself to spicy and mild kimchi at the self-serve bar. With baby chairs on hand, Eonyang Dak Kalguksu is an easy lunch stop for families near Tongdosa.

Sujebi dinner 7 minutes from Yeonsan Station, Busan: Sinseon Myeonga

Sinseon Myeonga is a Korean rice-and-noodle restaurant in Yeonsan-dong, Yeonje-gu, Busan, serving house-made kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) and hand-torn sujebi (dough flake soup). At the first dinner seating the order was sujebi at 7,500 won, octopus bibimbap at 10,000 won and a small bossam at 23,000 won, with sundae (blood sausage) and fresh geotjeori kimchi on the side and sikhye and yakgwa to finish. The octopus bibimbap, cooked with Icheon royal rice, was the standout, and a return visit at Sinseon Myeonga is a certainty.
