Mangwon-dong Japanese restaurant with parking and takeout futomaki
In short
Padong is a futomaki and soba restaurant on the basement floor of a building on World Cup-ro 17-gil in Mangwon-dong, Mapo, Seoul. On a weekend visit to Padong near Mangwon Market, the futomaki came packed with tuna, fried shrimp and shiso leaf, so a single roll was filling on its own, while the basil soba paired basil pesto with egg yolk for a fresh, light finish. Drivers can use the Mangwon 1-dong Community Center public parking lot, and Padong's futomaki can also be ordered for takeout.

I went to Mangwon-dong on the weekend for the first time in a while and stumbled onto a really neat, atmospheric Japanese restaurant. There are so many pretty, delicious spots in Mangwon-dong these days, but this one's cozy interior and unique Japanese menu make it perfect either as a date spot or for a clean solo meal.
This is Padong, the futomaki and soba restaurant in Mangwon-dong. Let me walk you through the location, parking, and the dishes I'd recommend.
Where is Padong, and where do you park?
Padong's address is 47 Wolgcup-ro 17-gil, basement floor, Mapo-gu, Seoul, near Mangwon Station exit 2. If you're driving, the nearby Mangwon 1-dong Community Center public parking lot makes it an easy visit.
It's also right next to Mangwon Market, one of the hottest spots in Mangwon-dong, so it's easy to combine your meal with a market stroll or café hop afterward.

Padong sits on the basement level of its building, but it doesn't feel cramped or dim at all — instead it has a cozy, tidy sense of space all its own.

Walking in, the first things you notice are the lovely plants and the warm wood-toned signboard, giving off a cute, comfortable first impression.

They've thoughtfully posted the menu outside too, which made deciding what to order much easier.

As a popular spot that sees waits during peak hours, they've set up chairs by the entrance so you can wait comfortably for your turn.

Inside Padong: character figures and a wood-toned room
There are these super cute character figures placed all around Padong's space.

They almost look like they're watching you eat, which was a charming little detail that caught my eye.

Inside, modern yet warm wood materials create an overall sense of balance.

Add in soft, warm mood lighting, and it completes that quiet, cozy feel unique to a tidy traditional-meets-modern Japanese restaurant. The seating is roomy and relaxed, so it's great for a comfortable solo meal, or for lingering over conversation with a partner or friend.

What we ordered at Padong: futomaki, basil soba and the side dishes
At Padong we ordered futomaki and basil soba. While waiting for the food, we entertained ourselves checking out the character figures.

They serve clean, pretty-colored pickled radish along with a tangy-spicy pickled chili. It whets the appetite and also cuts through the richness of Japanese food between bites, keeping things clean all the way through.

Before the main dishes, they bring out a warm, subtly deep-flavored broth to settle your stomach.

Now let's try the mains one by one~
Padong's futomaki: fillings, size and takeout
Padong's futomaki is a large-format Japanese rice roll made with generous, fresh ingredients rolled thick and with care.

The fillings include tuna, crispy fried shrimp, fragrant shiso leaf, sweet-salty fried tofu, burdock, gourd strips, fresh cucumber, and soft rolled egg, all packed in.

I've been on a futomaki kick lately, hunting down good spots, and this one stands out even among those for how fresh the ingredients are and how impressively large the roll is.

Taking a big bite, you get a burst of varied textures and soft, mellow flavor from all the different ingredients — really excellent.

Thanks to the balanced nutrition and generous fillings, even one roll alone is very filling and satisfying.

By the way, it's available for takeout too, so futomaki fans should definitely give it a try.

Padong's basil soba: basil pesto with egg yolk
I'm a total basil fanatic, so wherever I go, I always order whatever dish has basil in it.

Padong's basil soba is a unique dish where the fragrant basil pesto, springy boiled noodles, and savory egg yolk really shine together.

The yolk looks so plump and fresh, right? If you're sensitive about eggs, this'll get you haha.
The yolk turned out to be the secret weapon. Pop it and mix it all together, and

the fresh flavor of basil blends beautifully with the deep umami unique to Japanese soba.

The basil's freshness cuts through what could otherwise feel heavy, so you can enjoy it clean and savory to the very last bite. Highly recommended if you like basil or want to try a soba with a twist.
Is Padong worth a visit? Final thoughts and tips
If you're looking for a Japanese restaurant in Mangwon-dong with a can't-miss atmosphere and a clean, unique menu, be sure to visit Padong! In the cozy wood-toned interior, you can enjoy the perfect pairing of fragrant basil soba and hearty, fresh futomaki for a genuinely good day out.
