Busan pork soup bowl, half rice half meat: Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap

Today I went to check out a pork soup restaurant near Kyungsung Univ-Pukyong Nat'l Univ Station in Busan. What's Busan without dwaeji gukbap (pork soup), right~~ haha. Just thinking about the hot, rich broth and tender meat already has my mouth watering. So let me tell you right away how it actually tasted!

Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap hours and parking in Daeyeon-dong

I was so excited even before getting there — this is Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap Gyeongseong-Pukyongdae Branch, a well-known spot near Kyungsung Univ in Busan. What's especially great is that it's open 24 hours! Whether it's the middle of the night or late evening, whenever you're hungry, you can get a warm bowl of pork soup. Isn't that just great haha. You know those nights when you suddenly crave late-night food? A bowl of pork soup feels like a proper, filling meal at times like that. I think this would be a solid choice for anyone in Busan looking for a hearty meal late at night!

What is the restaurant like inside?

The Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap Gyeongseong-Pukyongdae Branch space was bigger and cleaner than I expected! I heard it's a newly opened branch, and maybe that's why the interior felt so tidy and pleasant overall. The tables had plenty of spacing too, so it was comfortable to eat. Being a gukbap (soup with rice) restaurant, the crowd was pretty mixed in age — some people dining solo, and quite a few families. Especially with so many families eating together, I thought this would be a good place to bring kids too.

Menu prices and the free welcome makgeolli

Here's the Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap menu. Prices aren't too high, and besides pork soup, there's boiled pork, sundae (Korean blood sausage), and makgeolli (rice wine) that pairs so well with it..!! Oh, and here's something really special — every guest gets a free welcome makgeolli! I love makgeolli like crazy, and since my husband was driving, I ended up drinking two glasses lol. Such a steal, such a great little event, love it. Turns out pork soup goes surprisingly well with makgeolli haha.

What we ordered: meat-loaded pork soup for 11,000 won

Just looking at these Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap side dishes already makes my mouth water. At a pork soup place like this, the kimchi has to be good — and this one totally passed!!! It had just the right amount of salted seafood seasoning, and wasn't overly fermented, so the kimchi alone tells you this place is legit.

Finally, the (meat-loaded) pork soup I ordered. It costs around ₩11,000, and considering how much meat came with it, that's really cheap!!! These days a regular bowl is about that price already, so Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap is still quite affordable.

Ordering it meat-loaded meant the portion was seriously insane... the meat just kept coming lol. Half rice, half meat, amazing. Pay a little extra and always go with the meat-loaded option!!

They also gave us noodles, so I mixed those in and ate them up properly haha. The noodles went surprisingly well with the pork soup — mixing them with kimchi made it even more delicious.

How the broth and pork taste, and who to bring

The broth was rich and the meat was tender, so it was really delicious! There was no gamy smell at all, so it was clean and easy to enjoy without any worries. Adding on the tasty kimchi, I polished off the whole bowl before I knew it! I think Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap would be a great choice when you want to have a hearty, restorative meal. Kids would probably enjoy it too, so I'd recommend it for a family meal out as well. Busan really is all about pork soup haha.
