Lunch set with spicy octopus and clam noodles near Dangsan Station

I'm working on getting a certification these days, so I head to Yeongdeungpo for class every weekend. Last week my husband came along, so we went for a good lunch in Dangsan-dong! He loves bossam (boiled pork wraps) so much that he found this place called Cheongun Bossam in Dangsan — I thought it only served bossam, but turns out they also have spicy octopus and clam noodle soup?

A bossam-loving husband plus an octopus-loving me — obviously we had to run straight there. Off we go to Cheongun Bossam, a Dangsan Station restaurant known for its clam noodle soup! It's the kind of place you'd visit for a good-value lunch set, or come back to in the evening with a drink alongside bossam and octopus.

Cheongun Bossam is an easy walk from Dangsan Station. Since I've been passing through Yeongdeungpo every weekend lately, I go by the Dangsan area often too — being close to the station makes it convenient to visit! From the outside the place already has that friendly vibe that makes you want bossam with a shot of soju. We went for the lunch special, and since it's such good value, there seemed to be a lot of lunch customers too! Note that you'll need to use a nearby paid parking lot.

The restaurant is quite spacious with plenty of tables. Even though we arrived a bit past the lunch rush, customers kept coming in, so the lunch special seemed really popular!

The menu — from bossam to spicy octopus and clam noodle soup

The menu was a lot more varied than I expected. With a name like Cheongun Bossam, I assumed it was a bossam-only place, but bossam is just the baseline — they also have spicy octopus, clam noodle soup, buckwheat noodles, blanched octopus, and seafood pancake, all great for sharing! There's even a dinner set combining bossam and octopus, perfect for a group.

What I liked especially was the good-value lunch special. We went planning to eat the bossam set, but a lunch special? Wanting to try everything, we decided to just go for it ^.^

Even after ordering all this, it only came to ₩35,000 — is that real? And that's the price of the small five-layer bossam set at Cheongun Bossam lol.

Four kinds of basic side dishes came out, including seasoned bean sprouts and stir-fried fish cake — nice ones to pair with the mains.

While we filled up on side dishes, the food arrived quickly! A table full of food, ready for another round of overeating haha. It's a bossam place, but I was surprisingly curious about the noodle soup too. I'm a noodle-soup lover these days, so if a restaurant serves it, I always order it lol. Visually, this already earned its spot as a Dangsan Station noodle soup restaurant!

Spicy octopus set — mix-it-yourself with kimchi bean sprout soup

This is the spicy octopus set I ordered~ Instead of just a bowl of plain rice, they give you a bowl of lettuce, sesame seaweed flakes, and bean sprouts to mix your rice with, plus a kimchi bean sprout soup! You put the rice in, top it with octopus, and mix it all together~ The combination with the refreshing kimchi bean sprout soup was so good! It's such a cheap lunch special but the composition is really solid, right? One bite of octopus, one spoon of soup, and your mouth feels totally clean!

You came for bossam but how could you skip the octopus? The octopus wasn't just painfully spicy — the sauce was spicy with a hint of sweetness, so it was great for mixing with rice. The nuttiness of the sesame flakes, the crunchy bean sprouts, and the octopus sauce all came together, tasting way better than eating it plain. Take a big spoonful of rice and it's seriously addictive~~ Cheap and tasty — such a satisfying dish!

What does the clam noodle soup broth taste like?

And then there was the clam noodle soup I'd been quietly looking forward to. We were already ordering two other dishes, so I worried whether we could finish the noodle soup too — turns out that worry was unnecessary lol. The moment I tried the broth, I thought, good thing we ordered this. The clams (called dongjuk, a.k.a. 'water gun clams') were packed in, and maybe because of that, the broth itself was clean yet refreshing! Instead of a heavy, thick noodle-soup broth, it had that light umami that comes from clams, which paired well with both the bossam and the octopus — plus there was the fun of fishing out the clams as you ate. I thought this was a bossam place, but I was surprised to find it's also a noodle soup restaurant!

One bite of spicy octopus, one sip of clam noodle soup broth — I'd call that the best combination at Cheongun Bossam.

Once the spicy-sweet octopus sauce fills your mouth, a sip of the refreshing clam broth resets everything, and you're ready to dive back into the octopus again — an endless loop that was truly a genius move!

Five-layer bossam set

This is the five-layer bossam set my husband ordered~ The bossam wasn't the dry, lean-meat-only style — the fat and lean meat were well balanced, making it moist and tender, with almost no gamey smell, so it was clean and tasty eaten plain or with kimchi! True to its name, the bossam here really delivers~

Lunch or dinner — when's the best time to go?

In the end, we cleared all three dishes ^.^ We visited for lunch, but it seems like a great dinner spot too! The lunch special is such good value that it's filling for lunch, and it's also great for a drink in the evening — Cheongun Bossam works either way! For a gathering with friends or a work dinner, head to Cheongun Bossam near Dangsan Station, known for its clam noodle soup, and have a drink~ Next time I'll have to come back for bossam and a shot of soju myself!
