Dangsan Station lunch bossam set at Cheongun Korean restaurant

In short

Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch is a Korean restaurant in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, close to Dangsan Station. I had the 35,000 won small five-layer pork bossam set with makguksu and a 3,000 won tuna-mayo rice ball, and especially loved the moist meat. A filling choice from lunch through dinner gatherings.

Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch five-layer pork bossam set spread

On days when I’m craving bossam (boiled pork wraps), I always think of a spread with hot, tender pork and bossam kimchi.

This time, I was craving bossam near Dangsan Station, so I visited Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch (청운보쌈 당산점).

They have set menus that let you enjoy bossam with kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) or jjukkumi makguksu (spicy webfoot-octopus buckwheat noodles), so it is a very filling place for a meal, too.

An open dining room with two walls opened up

Interior of Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch

It is in the Dangsan Station dining-alley area and on a corner, which may be why there were quite a few people.

Dining room with open walls

What was unusual was that two entire walls had been opened up. It felt wonderfully airy, and quite a few passersby looked inside, got curious, and came in.

Tables after the crowd had thinned out

A shot after the crowd had thinned out. I think there were about 12 tables, and one friendly staff member handled the dining room so efficiently.

Small five-layer pork bossam set

I ordered the small five-layer pork bossam set, priced at ₩35,000. Along with the bossam, you can choose one side dish to enjoy with it: dongjuk clam kalguksu or makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles).

Five-layer pork bossam set and side dishes

The bossam I ordered came out very generously with its side dishes for ₩35,000. There is an incredibly good-value bossam set meal at lunch for ₩12,000, while the ₩35,000 small five-layer pork bossam set seems like a good choice for dinner.

Generous five-layer pork bossam set

The bossam really came alive when wrapped with the meat, bossam kimchi, napa cabbage, and lettuce. It was also good dipped in marinated shrimp or ssamjang (savory soybean dipping paste).

The name five-layer pork bossam was a little unfamiliar to me, but it had none of the dryness that can be a drawback of regular bossam, and had a moist texture instead. It was a little sous-vide-like and so tender, which I loved.

The makguksu I chose with the set

Makguksu with the five-layer pork bossam set

This is the makguksu that comes with the five-layer pork bossam set. You can choose it or the dongjuk clam kalguksu.

Makguksu with tangy sauce

Mix it briskly with the tangy sauce and it goes very well with the bossam.

Makguksu eaten with bossam

The small five-layer pork bossam set seemed filling enough for two people. Makguksu is normally great for cutting through rich meat, but this bossam was not greasy, so it was also fine to enjoy the tangy noodles separately.

Finish with tuna-mayo rice balls

Tuna-mayo rice ball side dish

These tuna-mayo rice balls went nicely with the tangy makguksu. At ₩3,000, they were good value, too.

Plastic gloves and tuna-mayo rice balls

Plastic gloves come with them, so you shape them into rounds as if making little rice dumplings.

They matched the five-layer pork bossam and makguksu well while adding extra fullness. The tuna-mayo rice balls made a nice finishing side.

From lunch to dinner gatherings

After trying the five-layer pork bossam set at Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch, I was satisfied with it as a complete meal because I could enjoy both the meat and the accompanying dishes.

Meal of bossam and noodles

Overall, it was a good option when I wanted a generous meal: bossam and noodle dishes together, without the price feeling burdensome. A bite of bossam topped with kimchi, followed by makguksu and a tuna-mayo rice ball—this combination felt like the sort everyone can enjoy and that simply cannot go wrong. For a dinner gathering, I think it would be nice to order the large five-layer pork bossam set to share, along with kalguksu or makguksu. If you go at lunch, the lunch-special menu in the low ₩10,000 range also looks like an exceptionally good value.
