I visited a hair salon in Wangsimni that's been getting hot on Instagram, and honestly, it's one of the most satisfying men's-hair-only shops I've been to. When I pick a salon, what matters most to me is the designer's Instagram portfolio and the price for a cut + down perm. This place near Wangsimni Station checked both boxes — here's my review of a men's cut + down perm with designer Taekyung at Geek Hair :)

It's about 130m from Exit 6 of Wangsimni Station — an easy walk if you're coming by public transit!

It's a solid location whether you have plans near Wangsimni Station or need to head somewhere else after your appointment. I had a Korean beef (hanwoo) dinner planned with friends in Majang-dong afterward, so the location was really good for me~!

I booked designer Taekyung for a men's cut + down perm, priced at ₩65,000!

These days a men's cut plus a down perm often ends up pretty pricey, so this price felt reasonable! Designer Taekyung also only takes one booking per hour, which meant the whole consultation and treatment happened at a relaxed pace — I really liked that.

Before — when my side hair kept flaring out

My hair had grown out and looked kind of messy overall, and the side hair especially kept flaring, which made my head — already on the bigger side — look even bigger!!

For men's hair, just flattening the side hair properly can completely change your overall impression. So this time I asked for a clean cut + natural down perm :)

I sipped a cool drink while getting the first round of cutting, then a down perm on the side hair! Not just the sides — she also gave the fringe a subtle lift with a design down perm tailored to my style, which was such a nice touch. That one detail made styling so much easier afterward.

After — how the down perm turned out

Wangsimni men's hair expert Taekyung checked the length of my side and back hair and the overall silhouette during the consultation before shaping the style.

What I especially liked was that she didn't just press the down perm down hard across the board — it felt like it was adjusted naturally to my hair texture and side-hair condition. Since I have a bit of a wider jawline, she kept the sideburn length while designing around it. If a down perm is pressed too hard, it can look neat at first but turn awkward as the hair grows out — this time the side hair settled naturally and the overall balance felt much better.

You can really feel the before-and-after difference, right? The side hair that used to flare out is now neatly settled, and the whole shape looks far tidier. What I liked most was the line along the side and back — for men's hair, I think it's important that the line falls cleanly when viewed from the side, and here the whole silhouette came together naturally. The fringe wasn't too heavy or stuffy either, so the balance felt right and it should be easy to style day to day.

Instagram is full of men's hair transformation photos from this place, and after visiting in person, I get why it's called a go-to spot for men's hair.
