Guwol-dong hot pot for one, mushroom bulgogi: Boksakkot Pineun Jip

In short

Boksakkot Pineun Jip Incheon Branch is a charcoal-grilled jjukkumi (spicy baby octopus) and bulgogi hot pot restaurant near the Seonsuchon intersection in Guwol-dong, Namdong-gu, Incheon. Over an early family dinner the writer ordered a single-serving mushroom bulgogi hot pot with stir-fried jjukkumi and gorgonzola pizza, plus muk-sabal (chilled acorn jelly soup), salad and bibimbap, and the hot pot was hard to believe as one portion. Single servings are allowed and drinks after the meal are free, making Boksakkot Pineun Jip an easy pick for a generous meal.

A place where the food is always good, no matter when you go! There are a few restaurants my family loves, and this is one of them. You can order just one menu item and still eat so much, so deliciously — but everyone feels the same way, apparently, because this place is so popular there's always a huge wait!

Boksakkot Pineun Jip Incheon Branch, a jjukkumi restaurant in Guwol-dong, is located near the Seonsuchon intersection. There's a large parking lot right in front of the restaurant, so you can park comfortably and walk right in. We went for an early dinner thinking it would be empty, but I was surprised to find it already more than half full!

Second floor when the first fills up: waiting times at peak hours

Boksakkot Pineun Jip has plenty of seating on the first floor, but there's also seating on the second floor. If the first floor is full, they'll seat you upstairs, and if that's also full, you'll need to wait in line out front. Waits tend to be long during meal hours, so go early!

Boksakkot Pineun Jip menu and what comes with the set

Here's the menu and pricing at Boksakkot Pineun Jip, the jjukkumi restaurant in Guwol-dong! The charcoal-grilled options are pork, jjukkumi, and octopus, and beyond that there's jjuchipa, mushroom bulgogi hot pot, nakji-bulgogi (octopus bulgogi), barbecue pork ribs, and more. Such a varied menu! And if you order a set menu for two or more, you also get pizza, salad, and muk-sabal (acorn jelly soup) — so generous!

The side dishes arrived as soon as we ordered! Full of delicious banchan you could finish off with just a bowl of rice. That muk-sabal especially was so cool and refreshing, I polished off a whole bowl right away!

A bowl of bibimbap to mix with the jjukkumi

A fresh salad and a bowl of bibimbap to mix with the stir-fried jjukkumi showed up too! Packed full of fresh vegetables — pile on plenty of jjukkumi stir-fry, mix it with the rice, top it with yeolmu (young radish kimchi), and one bowl leaves you completely full!

Mushroom bulgogi hot pot for one: is this really a single serving?

The first dish to arrive was the mushroom bulgogi hot pot! I couldn't believe this was a single serving — the portion was unreal. Packed full of every kind of mushroom, glass noodles, and meat! At most other restaurants you basically have to order two servings, so sometimes you can't get the dish you actually want, but here you can order just one serving — such a great feature!

Once all that meat and vegetables comes to a rolling boil, it's ready to eat. Truly a portion you won't believe is meant for one person — you'll be surprised when you see it yourself!

And it's not just the quantity — it genuinely tastes great too. The broth is delicious mixed with rice, and it's just as good piled onto the pizza that comes alongside it!

And then the freshly baked gorgonzola pizza! It arrives as a whole pizza, golden brown and beautifully baked. Dip it in honey and it's pure honey-flavored bliss! Totally chewy with a generous layer of cheese on top — I ate it up happily.

How spicy is the charcoal-grilled jjukkumi stir-fry?

And finally, the last dish — the jjukkumi stir-fry! Strong smoky char flavor with just the right amount of spice, chewy and delicious on its own, and just as great mixed into bibimbap!

For me, someone who can't handle much spice, it was a pleasantly spicy level — folks who love spicy food probably won't find it that hot, but it's tasty enough regardless, and that sauce was so good I kept eating without stopping.

Then, using the big bowl they gave us, we filled it with rice, jjukkumi, and plenty of sauce, and mixed it all together! Add a bit of yeolmu kimchi on top and it's crisp and so delicious!
